info:

1. buy the filter that is used with the 4x4 pan.

here is supporting thread from 'Tech himself

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ghlight=filter

2. fill with the same fluid as the factory (Mercon) DO NOT MIX synthetic fluid with what is already in there. (unless your COMPLETELY flushing the tranny of all stock fluid)

I have the same setup going into my L in the next month or so.

best of luck.

The pan is F81Z-7A194-BA and the filter is YC3Z-7A098-BA. You can use the factory line on the dipstick. Hope this helps.

I tried to save as much fluid as I could with my change. I had to end up putting back 3 quarts of fluid but it was only that much b/c I spilled some on the floor. You measure by the same mark on the stick.

Don't try and recycle (re-use) the fluid. Drain as much as you can, drain the converter also and replace with new juice and filter. Get into a regular changing cycle like after every 3rd 0r 4th oil change and your tranny will last much longer. It doesn't cost that much for some very important preventive maitinence.

'Bout time to hit Route 66.

At 31000 miles, I'm planning on draining all the fluid out of the tranny . How many quarts will I need and would QS mercon 3 be good eniough to use? Also, what have you all paid for the
4 X 4 pan and filter kit?

Thank you!

Since you are changing the pan and filter I would highly recommend Greg's valve body. Remember to take the magnet from the old pan and put in the new one. I used a small punch to drain the pan..hell of a lot cleaner job that way. You will never regret buyin` the valve body....PSP sells it. Good luck.

The 4x4 pan is about $35.00 at the dealer. Greg has possted about the filter..it`s a lot less expensive at an auto parts store..plus is the same one.

4 X 4 F-150 or F-250??

Guy's,
The tranny pan your talking about (W/drain plug) fitting our Lightnings, are these pans standard equipment on the SD 250 or is it the F-250. I called the Ford parts dept and W/O even seeing his face could sence the glazed look in his eyes. He said this would be a special order for the 4 x 4 pan. Also he said to his knowledge, none of the F-150 have the drainable pans.

I stopped by a dealer yesterday and looked at the pans on several Four wheel drive F-150 trucks. These being 2002 models, had pans W/O drain plugs. There were no SD trucks on the lot for me to check.

I'll call the dealer on Monday with the PN's that SAL posted ans see whut happins then

i had to replace mine the other day after i smashed it..

here is the part number.. either print it out, or write it down.
go to the parts counter & ask for the part number. if they need to know what vehicle it goes on, tell them you don't know. if you say a lightning, they will tell you it's not for that application.

my local ford place had several of these pans in stock. .
they should be able to tell you which pickup/filter you'll need to go with it. also, get some tranny fluid while you are there.

I easily get confused - but I think the F81Z-7A194-BA pan is a standard sized pan with plug - NOT A DEEP SUMP PAN. You can use the standard Ford filter or Deutch TF350 with that pan. I don't know the part number for the DEEP SUMP PAN.
