Sept. 11

Very Interesting Information

CNN Headline News did a short news listing regarding Ford and GM's contributions to the relief and recovery efforts in New York and Washington. The findings are as follows......

1. Ford- $1 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number plus 10 Excursions to NY Fire Dept. The company also offered ER response team services and office space to displaced government employees.

2. GM- $1 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number and a fleet of vans, suv's, and trucks.

3. Daimler Chrysler- $10 million to support of the children and victims of the Sept. 11 attack.

4. Harley Davidson motorcycles- $1 million and 30 new motorcycles to the New York Police Dept.

5. Volkswagen- Employees and management created a Sept11 Foundation, funded initial with $2 million, for the assistance of the children and victims of the WTC.

6. Hyundai- $300,000 to the American Red Cross.

7. Audi- Nothing.

8. BMW- Nothing.

9. Daewoo- Nothing.

10. Fiat- Nothing.

11. Honda- Nothing, despite boasting of second best sales month ever in August 2001

12. Isuzu- Nothing.

13. Mitsubishi- Nothing.

14. Nissan- Nothing.

15. Porsche- Nothing. Press release with condolences via the Porsche website.

16. Subaru- Nothing.

17. Suzuki- Nothing.

18. Toyota- Nothing, despite claims of high sales in July and August 2001. Condolences posted on the website

Whenever the time may be for you to purchase or lease a new vehicle, keep this information in mind. You might want to give more consideration to a car manufactured by an American-owned and / or American based company. Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United States. It's OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but it is apparently not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis. I believe we should not forget things like this. Say thank you in a way that gets their attention.
Pass it on.

Interesting to see. Thanx for the post

10 Excursions? Whoa. Guess the FD has the best 'REAL' use for those things yet that I've heard. Seen one with 22" wheels. That was a huge b!tch. I don't recall Ford seeling a lot of those. Anyone else?

30 Harleys? Boo yeah.

Well that was all good news, minus of that from the foreign auto manufacturers. What up with BMW. They charge $98/hour (CDN) labour at the dealer, and are known for very high priced cars. No flame intended. Rather curious though. Germans are usually known for their generosity. At least our family anyway.

But yeah. That definitley puts things of the auto nature into perspective.

I hope people see these facts, and choose to support the US Auto makes, and run the foreign companies out of our country.

Pretty darn good for a company with enough troubles to close 5 of their plants & give up on 4 vehicle models. IMHO

If only everyone could be so giving in times of need.

I cant believe that those other countries didnt put forth any donations even though there were several hundred foreigners who perished on Sept. 11.

From the BMW web page

September 14, 2001 -- The BMW Group is committing cash and products to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and the City of New York to assist in relief efforts following Tuesday's attack on the United States.

BMW will donate $1 million in cash and ten new BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicles to the Red Cross for its national relief efforts. One hundred police motorcycles will be given to the City of New York to help replace equipment lost in the New York Police Department motor pool. The total donation is valued at $2.4 million.

In a joint statement, the chief executives of BMW's manufacturing, sales and marketing, financial services, technology and design companies said "on behalf of our employees, dealers, and customers, we hope this donation will assist the relief effort, honor the memory of those who lost their lives, and show our appreciation for the freedom and opportunity this country offers."

The BMW companies in the United States are located in Spartanburg, SC; Woodcliff Lake, NJ, Dublin, OH, and Newbury Park, CA.

Not that I would buy a BMW. I just sell their bikes.

I at this time like to retract my previous statement regarding BMW.

BMW's RULE! New M3's anyway. Still overpriced in the labour category. Z8 is right up there. On average, I'd still give them thumbs up. Still high priced though.

Sept 11th question

I've been reading what everyone has been saying something occured to me. I see that none of the "Foreign" car manufactures have donated anything but if you think about it it goes beyond that.

Think about it, floods in Italy 2 years ago. Who came running to help the Americans

Famine in Africa, yep the Americans came running

Just about any problem anywhere in the world, the Americans are no far behind with help and support

Now just so everyone knows I am a Canadian and proud of it but I do think the eastern world should have given up at least a quarter of the support that we as North Americans have given out over the past 50 years.

Just a thought,

Siemens did a big part to...

I work for Siemens, we donated like 3.5 million Dollars to it as well. We had one floor in each of the buildings that we had a offices in. Luckly we only lost one person...

I feel for all that lost more....

Toyota gives one million plus matches employee contributions:

http://www.toyota.com/html/about/new...928_relief.jsp

BMW Contributed Motorcycles to the NY Police Department, a simple search of BMW contributes will take you to a mirade of sites to confirm.

Look at Honda.com over 1.5 million donated its right oin the home page Honda Responds.

http://www.nissannews.com/corporate/.../frameset.html

Nissan donates 105,000

Porsche's response:
http://www.us.porsche.com/national/news/default.htm

The others I couldnt find anything on but spent a limited amount of time searching the net for the ones above. Blanket statements of how none of the Foreign car companies have done anything is BS. And dont forget how many Countries have also offered troops and money for the War. While I agree buying American is the only way to go, other countries and Foreign Companies have stepped forward to help. Do a little research before you post.

Sept 11th reply

Sure maybe I was a bit over zealous in my reply but think about other natural disasters that have happened at other times, have you ever seen an Army from a Foreign country helping clean up the mess after an earth quake in Cali? Maybe they offered and were turned down...who knows.....

Am I banging the drum for the Americans? No, I guess I am just fustrated that after everything that has happened the internatioanl comunity in slaging the US for their treatment of the prisoners at Git'mo.

But that's another rant for another time

I love my new F150...Ford trucks rule....

Don't forget that some of the "foreign" auto makers are owned by the Big 3.

My wifes Isuzu Rodeo was made here in Indiana, and it has a Chevy engine and tran in it.

And don't forget where your truck was made

Please don't flame me for this.
