I bet they really drop some jaws when they see how it runs. <g>.

It took to the Summer Nationals car show ( http://www.summernats.com.au ) a few weeks ago, talk about creating a stir. My only gripe was I didn't have the front Ford Badge and I got tired of morons asking if it was a Chev. Better yet so many asked me if it was a blown V6!
Good point, but morons being morons, they'd ask it even if the logo were there.

I gotta say I'd pass on the Falcon XR series utes, even as a Ford fan. They are have been outdone by Holden HSV utes (Chev) for years unfortunately. Plus, I used to own a Holden Special Vehicles VR Maloo (ex-girlfriends ride), so I can testify that even in 250hp form non-chipped (current spec is 340hp!) They could haul-***. Only misgiving being they get extremely lose in the tail end and make the L feel like it has traction control by comparison.
Thanks for the honest comparo. The only Holdens I've ever seen has been when Speedvision carries the supercar series over here. Looks like a fun series...

Now if you want to see something very special in a ute checkout this HSV concept pic attached. If you're hungry for more take a look at the website :
HSV HRT Website
p.s. the HRT has 470HP !!
Awesome rides. I wish we had stuff like that here. BTW, what's the gasoline quality over there?

Best of luck!

Boy did this thread bring out some oldtime posters and maybe even some lurkers. Been here since May 1999 and saw a lot of new names of 99.5 original owners. I thought I was one of the few original owners left. Maybe the lowest build number??

Mine just turned 18,000 miles and other than mods everything else is original. Tires, intercooler, plugs, battery and well, whatever.

Like Rich (TampaSVT) I'll probably be buried with or in Moby. I have never kept a new vehicle more than three years, but I will keep this truck. Seems like they fetch around $22K to $24K around here and my residual buyout is $16K so to buy it off lease is a bargain.

While I have never had a warranty problem, when that runs out in May I have a few thoughts about further mods I left alone not wanting to incite the Warranty Gods at Ford.

As a side note, I leased this week a 2002 Continental for Pat as the lease on her 98 had run out. She loves the darn things and as this is the last year for that car, I may buy that one when it comes off lease in 3 years. And, this one is going to get chipped and filtered so that at least I can enjoy driving it.

Enjoyed the thread
Bill

I agree with you Bill Murray it would be a cool casket. The second option i would go for (wich i hope the choice doesn't come for about 60 years) is this

My son is eight years old and if I were him, I'd be workin' dad to get the truck when I turn 16. He hasn't caught on yet.
Anyways, as said earlier, "I still have my 99L ... " and just got some Prothane urethane bushings for the control arms. Still waiting for the Bilsteins to come in. The mod mania never stops.

Lastly, I have thought about trading in for a newer L but this truck has been great to me compared to some of the horror stories I have read. I still turn heads and get thumbs up from strangers. What a truck.
