Sorry guys but Scheme is right. Sorry for getting you worked up. I don't own a 330(or anything fast at all)...but I'm sure a F150 would stomp it. hahah
I just used this post as an experiment.

I do ahve a lot of respect for the Lighting...

The guy who asked me how I liked my new Extreme was driving a BMW 330xi. Could this be the same...........Nah, the world is not "that" small.

Check the link. It's actually pretty funny what some of those guys think about the L.

Some big differences

Lightning is available. The M5 is NOT.
I am ( and was ) NOT willing to wait 2 years and get treated like dirt by the stuck up sales folks at the BMW places in Dallas.
The price is 2x or more higher.
I was told to expect to wait 18months minimum and pay 5-10K over MSRP for the M5.

If the issues above were NOT sucj a problem I may have bought one....

Doug

PS I did like this quote from that bored.
The difference on this board is that there is enough brain power here that we ultimately get to the right answer.

lol this is all funny guys. I am coming over from that M5 board, as I am somewhat neutral in all this, although not entirely, since I do not own an M5...yet.....

In any case...L's are some sick trucks...M5's are too...You cant compare the 2 and start talking about price....we are only arguing about pure power. The m5 is a luxury car, and along with it comes the price. I would say either way it is a close call, with a lot of potential going towards the L as far as aftermarket goes.

One thing though....
1)stuck up sales folks? never encountered them...if you treat them with respect, and show that you are knowledgable, they will respect you back. Maybe its different in TX

2) wait 2 yrs? While I have heard several dealers in NJ satate 9 month wait lists, how come almost every single one of them has had an M5 as of late that was not sold when it came in? I was also quoted that I could get one by April

3)Now you are thinking, I can only get one by april if i pay that 5-10k over sticker, right??? NO WAY. I would never pay over sticker...nor are any dealers asking for that here...again if its different in TX, who knows!

4)Price? If i wanted a truck I would buy the Lightning...but i dont want one. So i'll pay double for the M5. Too bad there wont be much left for a lightning to buy also.

Anyway..keep tricking thes trucks out guys. They are hot.

Thanks for coming over, ThemisN. Good comments.

It is definitely a difficult thing to compare a great luxury car to a great performance pickup, completely different vehicles in design and function. I'm sure with modifications the M5 can be made to run faster, as is the case with the Lightning. But speed isn't the end-all factor in rating a vehicle, is it

I would hope that I would be respected as soon as I walked in the door... Not after I treat them nice, then try to prove that I know something.

I am a little biased, as I went to a BMW dealer with a friend that had intentions of purchasing a 328i.. We got treated like $#17. Maybe it was because I was wearing jeans???

Here here TruBlu!

My mom really wanted one of those S-Type Jags. Charles Maund is the Jag dealer in Austin so I stopped in one day while in Austin after a practice with the band.

It took fifteen minutes for someone to even come talk to me....in the showroom!

I expressed my interest in buying an S-Type as a gift, even had my checkbook in the back pocket of my jeans.

Was totally blown off because I was wearing jeans and a T-shirt instead of khakis and polos.

What the Hell, my money is as good as any body's!

Ended up buying it from Park Place Jaguar in Houston who was recommended to me after I called Jag's customer service line and lodged a complaint.

Walked in, had the silver and black combo she wanted and bought it that day.

A LOT of sales people in "luxury" dealerships immediately blow people off who don't "look" like they can afford one.

As if there are crowds of people already there, eh?

Lightbulb

I should have said that in Jan - Feb of 2000 when I was looking for an Auto the Facts I stated above were true. The M5 was NOT available and the dealers in TX were stuck up. I'm sure things have changed since then.

I also looked at Corvettes, Audi S4's, and even tried to get in a Viper to see if I would fit.

Sorry to bring this back up guys...and you know what though.

You're right. You should be respected once you walk in the door. Thing is, it doesnt always happen. To give you an example...this happens even at FORD dealerships...I'm 23 right now. When I was 19 I was in the market for a car. I wanted a car with *****, and had a very wide range of cars I could afford. One of them I was considering was a Cobra (in the last yr that it was produced in Mystic). I walked into the dealership...looked at the GT they had on the floor...nothing..noone helping me. 10 minutes passes by...and I have to say something (sound familiar?)

I get some guy who finally comes up and asks me what im looking at. I tell him I want a cobra in mystic, and he had one on the lot...he takes me there...im looking at it...and he isnt saying anything...not helping me, not opening it up to take a look..just waiting for the shot to leave. Why? Bc i was 19? Please. I only got the respect when he saw my mother pull up in her benz. Thats ridiculous. I ended up buying a GS400 instead.

It just goes to show, that you have to understand that these things happen, even at Ford dealerships. He thought I was a punk kid looking at this fast car and I couldnt afford it, while I ended up buying a car that cost 20k more! I understand that, and deal with it when it happens.

It doesnt happen much anymore though. I always wear jeans. I still get the respect. BMW, Benz dealers are realizing that young people have money, either bc they make it or from other sources, and they better treat them right bc they dont know what category they are in. I now have my contacts at all the major dealers in the area, so I won't deal with that treatment again, however you are buying a car, not the salesperson. If you have to wait 10 mins to get this guy to realize you are serious and then give you the best deal , do it!

The only thing thats smokin' is your brain. Banging off of what rev limiter!! The auto trans shifts a preprogrammed points. I guess the only way to hit the rev limiter is to start the shifter in 1 or 2 and take it all the way to fuel shutoff. I doubt it.

Anyone can win...

Anyone can win just about any race with any car they want, it all comes down to acceptable colateral damage...

When the M5...Viper or whatever pulls up on the passenger side to race turn your wheels all the way to the right and load up the tranny.....It's kinda funny...their eyes get THIS BIG!!
