Oh yeah, I just installed and air filter kit today and it started making that noise. I think it was there before, just not as loud.

Joe, does the noise go away when you put it in gear or give it gas? I see you have a non-stock lower pulley, but that sounds a lot like what my friend T-Bone's L did when the screws on his stock lower pulley came loose. Tightening them up fixed it.

if your looking at the engine from the front with the hood open, the mic was on that black box in the upper right hand corner. the noise does not go away. Well, i got my oil changed by ford at around 5100 and it now has around 6700. I am in the process of changing the spark plugs but i need to go buy like 10 freakin extenders and U-joints and and a fat *** light to work with. im hella worried about this *****. if ne thing is ****ed up they better replace my engine. AHHHHHHH

while your getting extensions get a telescoping magnetic tool. This will help you get the 7 mm bolt out, and back in.

It doesn't sound too good.

Sounds kinda like the 4.6's in the fleet I used to work on when they were losing oil pressure to the lash adjusters for the cam followers.

Is the noise more in the valve covers or nearer the front of the motor, it's hard to tell, it might be one of the timing chains rattling too.

Joe try this for isolating the noise,
get yourself a piece of wood, 2x2, 1x2 about 18 to 22" long, what ever works then start your truck, start putting the piece of would on the area's that the noise sounds like its coming from and the other end against your ear you will be able to hear it better, then post back and tell me what you find. I might be able to help..

Hey J15BIG, My truck sounded exactly like that when I got some oil off my hands on the S/C belt. I don't know how it makes that noise but it sounds identical to what you have. I removed the belt from the pulleys so I could pull it around freely and cleaned the inside and outside with Alcahol and wiped off all the pulleys also and I havn't heard it since. Is there a chance you got some oil from your filter on your hands and got it on the belt? Even if this doen't fix your problem it wont cost you anything to try this except a few minutes. Good Luck!

svtaklo1,
i will try this tomorrow and tell you what i find

usahooters,
there is a very good chance that there is oil on the sc belt. I brought it in to my frineds shop today and we did an oil change on an old BMW. then we put the fitler kit on a little later. so its very possible theres oil on there. that may also explain the sudden loss of the superchager that happend earlier today. i floored it but the boost didnt kick in. i stayed out of the supercharger as much as possible for a few minutes and then the sc started working agian. I dont know how oil on the belt could be making that noise but i can almost garuntee you that there is some oil on there after all the **** i did today. If i have time i will try to clean the belt tomorrow.

ally,
it goes away sometimes, mainly after i have driven on the freeway for a few minutes. but then it comes back after i sit at idle for a while.

thanks for all of your suggestions and input. hopefully after i clean the belt the noise will go away like it did for usahooters. time will tell. ill keep you guys posted.

oh yeah, btw, while were on the topic of problems,
while i was at my friends shop we put my truck up on one of the lifts just to take a look. i found that my left-rear axel seal is leaking a lot of fluid. its all over. its not like its dripping on the ground but if you run your finger around there you will definetly feel fluid. i made an appt tues. for them to fix it. im almost positive its under warranty, if not, they will get hell from me. has this happend to anyone else?

I would also say supercharger belt. Mine made almost the exact sound in the exact way that yours is when I put my new upper pulley on. I could shut it up temporarily with some ivory soap, but I got a new belt from Ford and problem solved. You could try cleaning it as suggested, then if that doesn't help, take the belt off, start the truck and see if you have the noise. My 2 cents.

Will the engine run w/o the supercharger turning?
