Another Knocking Noise!!!!
Yep, no problems. I just started it and reved it a little to see if the noise would be there without the s/c running. I had already ruled out the noise actually coming from the s/c, so I assumed the next step would be the belt or a pulley bearing. After further inspection of the belt once I had the new one on, I noticed a few scratches across the ribs. I assume this was the culprit that was causing the belt to make that noise.
I respect Sal's judgement, I have seen a lot of his posts and the man knows these trucks, but my belt was not hitting anything, and the pulleys were not loose or miss-aligned. I changed the belt and problem solved.
Well, I cleaned my belt and pulleys with a rag and some rubbing alcohol. I saw a significant amount of black stuff on the rag so it did do something. Reinstalled the belt, started her up, and....click-click-click....Well now what do I do? Should I got buy a new belt?
Take the supercharger belt off and start the truck. If the noise is gone, at least you know EXACTLY where the noise is coming from. Just start it up rev it a little and if your noise is gone, then you put the belt on. If the noise is back, take a piece of soap and wet it, be careful and press the bar of soap against the inside of the belt(BE CAREFUL) you don't have to press very hard and keep your fingers out of the way. IF you prefer, get some belt dressing (I hate the stuff, but just spray a little on the inside and outside of the belt as the truck is running. Do it sparingly as it will sling it if you get too much on. If the sound goes away for even a second and comes back, you have found your problem. That will rule out any pulley bearing as it won't get in the bearings if used sparingly. The only thing left is the supercharger. If you think it is the supercharger, you will be able to put a piece of wood like a 2X2 or a piece of broom stick up against the supercharger, then to your ear. You WILL hear a significant increase in the noise thru the wood if the problem is anywhere in the supercharger. This is exactly what I did and when I replaced the belt THE PROBLEM WAS GONE. I know this sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn't compared to what the dealership will charge you. I really does sound very similar to the noise that I heard when my supercharger belt was too loose after my pulley install. Hope this helps.
J15BIG yea do what Aggie said, I pulled my S/C belt off the crank pulley and made sure it wasn't going to get caught on anything and crank the engine up and see if it goes away. It wont hurt a thing to just set there and idle, if it goes away at least you know your in the right place. If its not the belt its more than likely the tension pulley.
J15BIG, that sounds exactly like the problem I had with my 2000 before i traded it. Listen for yourself and compare.

what was the problem u had, and how did u fix it?
im new here to the forums, and j15big introduced me to them. i just recently got my 2001 Red Lightning, and i love her!!!
my turck actually made that noise a little bit when she was young, but it kept going away and coming back, and i took it to my mechanic, and he said nothing to worry about, and after i installed a pulley, it was gone. so im guessing that it might be ur belt dude, and ill help u with it if u need help diagnosing it.

usahooters. I have cleaned the belt and pulleys twice. that was not the problem, unfortunatly. So now im stuck with this damn noise.
i am bringing the L in for the rear axel seal tues and i called the dealer today to see if the mods that "i had in mind"
would void my warranty and basically this is what he said
Valve body=Voided transmission warranty
Lower Pulley=Voided supercharger warranty
Chip=Voided computer warranty
Filter=didnt ask
Shackles=didnt ask
so basically the only things possibly left under warranty are the block, heads, internals and rearend. but i dont know what theyll say. guess the extended warranty was a big waste. they need a mod warranty where you can mod as much as you want but have to pay more up fron for them to cover it. yea right. anyway ill see if they can find out what this damn clicking noise is too. well see. ill keep you all posted
