Painted rear window trim?

Hey,

Has anyone painted to match the rear window trim?

What do you have to do?

What kind of products, special primers?

Steps?

Thanks,

I had mine done a while back.

They have to completely smooth the piece, use a typical adhesive and spray. One thing you'll want them to do is tape the entire riber seal.

Installation isn't that bad.

You can see it in this shot.

Including the new window trim from Ford, it was a $200 mod.

Do you need to buy a new trim piece?

Can you just use the one on the truck....

No, it has to be the one from your truck. They are all spefically made for each individual truck.(just kidding).

You can do it either way... Most wouldn't want the window removed for too long.

TampaSvt, One fine looking ride. I am going to Melbourne Florida shortly. If I had the time I sure would love to see your truck. Bob.

Have you ever thought about getting you tailgate handle painted?

I have, just curious if maybe it is possible. Maybe they said it's not possible...

Yeah. Very possible. Look at the doorhandles. Same thing.

Mine will be shaved in the next few months.

The tailgate handle is easy to do. Just pull it off and snad it down a little and then paint it. My body guy painted it for free since he had some left over paint. Looks smooth like that too. Thank RobG for that one, he's the first person I remeber see doing it awhile back.

Does any body know how to take the trim out?

Clips or something else?

Under the exterior light, there are a couple of bolts.
Under the headliner, a few more.
Under the upper trim behind the seats, a few more.

You actually have to remove the rear window to get it off.

So what did they do?

Remove the window?

I know you said you got another trim piece, but you can't get it out unless you take the window?

Did you try?

I'm sure it would be easier to remove it to paint it?

Whoa....! It has to be removed to paint. The trim is what holds the window in.

It may take a few days to get it back, so I purchased another one from Ford and had it done at my leisure. That way the rear window wasn't removed except for the install. I did mine myself.
