It's the most horrifying sound you'll ever hear.

IT's kinda like two metal pipes hitting against eachother really fast.

LIGHTNINROD has got it. For an 'old guy' he's quick.
I have not hit it in the L, but usual rev-limiters sound like rapid misfiring.

If you're not sure what it sounds like, do this:

Go to a deserted street.

Put it in 1st gear and punch it.

Hold it at WOT for as long as you can stand it.

You'll probably hear something unusual, depending on how long you hold down the throttle. One of the sounds is the engine being cut out by the rev limiter. The other is yourself mumbling "why did I try that?"

Chiken,
It will sound really bad, I know the EECIV used to remove fuel when it hit, so be careful. AND Stop shifting that truck. put it in Drive and go . you are slowing it down by doing that . I know it is fun , but a no no . call me if need to.

If you really want to hear what it sounds like, leave it in park and hold the loud pedal all the way to the floor for a couple of seconds... you never mistake it again!

Nooooooooooooooo , that's not right! You're gonna' go WOT with no load on the engine? You could put somebody's eye out(forgive me, Kevin Meany)! Please don't do that ever.

Oh, watch it redneck or I'll git you for practising 'ageism..... .

What I heard was the sound that most of you described, especially ICULOKON. It sounded like a stutter box for only a split second.

This is what I did. Trying to show off for a friend, I shifted into low gear at around 30 mph and kicked it. Before I could shift into second gear it had hit the revlimiter.

Before you jump me for shifting into low, I know I didn't need to shift into low but for some reason I just wanted to. Never again will I do THAT. The sound that the revlimiter made was like a rapid missfire and felt like wheel hop too, kinda like the rear tires were hitting little bumps in the road and trying to spin.

Lightninrod,

He said he wanted to see what it sounds like, and that't the easiest way to do it! I personally wouldn't do it intentionally. A couple of my friends were always getting loaners from their dealers when that had warranty problems (shouldn't have bought Chevy's!! LOL) and they would always beat the he!! out of those cars. They would sit in parking lots and let it hit the rev limiter for LONG periods of time. That's whay I'd never buy a used rental car!

Later,
Roger
