1995 351W Lightning short block-good? bad?
Hi, I am considering buying a 1995 351W lightning block to put in my Mustang, but I need to know some info first. What are the good points? Bad points? How are they different than the earlier blocks? Stronger? Weaker? The seller says it's still got the standard bore, the rods are polished, the deck has been o-ringed(what's that), and it has Ross pistons. Any other info you guys can give me would help a lot. Also, what would be the ideal price on the shortblock assembly? Thanks.

Basically the 351 L block is strong but nothing different than any other 351 block integrity wise. The hypertenetic pistons that came with the block are light and pretty strong unless you are going to run some high H.P. numbers like 500 or over, then the forged pistons (like the Ross) would be much better.Main caps are 2 bolt and they have a decent cam in them as well as1/2 inch head bolt holes.Oil filter has a water jacket. Can't think of anything else different.A good strong and reliable block.
They never used roller lifters. The later 95 blocks where machined for them, but they always used a flat tappet camshaft.A roller cam could be easily retrofitted to that year , though.
I am pretty sure all the 94 and up blocks were roller cam compatable. I had a buddy that put a late model 351 with decent heads and an Eldelbrock FI intake in his 90 coupe. Car ran like a stocker until you wanted to go fast, real fun streetable ride, ran mid 11's @ 119mph on street radials and still got decent mileage.
