Question axle hopping?

is anyone experiencing a slight "hopping" feel when you accelerate from a dead stop, only if the front wheels are turned?
For instance: when i come to a stop sign and stop, then turn the wheel for a right or left turn, and press down on the gas pedal i feel a vibration or a hopping sensation. its starting to anoy me.
thanks for your help!

I think I have felt what you are talking about. I think it is the tires loosing traction and 'skipping' a little bit. So far mine has not done it bad enough to really shake things up, though. I guess that's what 450 ft/lbs will do for you!

Thanks red 01

yeah...i thought that could be it, sure does feel like traction could be the culprit. i find myself "babying" it around the turns. its not real bad, just a pain in the a--.
As long as i know its common among other owners, than i will live with it. Thanks for your feedback!

That's exactly what was happening on my truck, axle hop/clunky feel from the rear end when going around corners.

Ford replaced the clutch packs in the posi as they were completely shot in my case.

Logan,
Did your truck to that since new, or is it something that happened after the rear had seen some use?

The clutches in the traction-loc diff DO wear, and after a period of time (depending on how much hard acceleration) they wear to the point where it is almost like a regular diff. That may have been what happened to Logan, but in our cases, I think the culprit is traction.

A buddy of mine once had a Grand National, and as you may know they have a REAL posi-traction, not a traction-loc like we have. During a turn, the inside tire would 'skip' around, even if you gave it very little gas. That's because the wheels were basically locked together, and the one on the outside has to make more revs than the one on the inside, so the inside one would skip.

I wonder if the diffs in our Ls are trying to lock when under medium power during a turn causing the skipping???

Mine does the same thing when starting from a tight turn -like after I back out of the driveway. Feels like real Posi -I like it! I'm sure it's normal.

Along with using tracbars, check your tire pressure, could be a small probem.

450 pounds of torque will do this. When I have my towing tires on Witch are 16'' at 55mph if I punch it the rear end will jump up and down looking for traction. Dont like that feeling but it happens. Good thing we have the 18'' tires to tame the L down. Bob.

Traction bars will fix this. If you are using them on the street, then get the ones that have rubber bushings on the ends like the ones that JDM sells.

Hope this helps
