Full Coverage Insurance for $324/Yr.
Full Coverage Insurance for $324/Yr.
I'm a little older than most of you guys and I am finally able to get my insurance for a reasonalbe price. I drive an F150 Step-Side with V8 and Automatic. It's not an "L" but looks like one.
I get a rate of $324 a year through The Hartford Insurance Co. but I'll tell you right now that I live in a romote area where the only thing we have to worry about are deer on the highway.
Another way I shaved a payment off of each year is I took a defensive driving course for $10 to get 10% off of my insurance. It saves me one whole payment per year. And, my driving record is pretty good too. So, if you are paying ten times that much, I just wanted to rub it in at little bit.

Defensive Driving Courses ....
Defensive driving courses are available and most insurance companies will reward you with as much as a 10% discount for taking one every 2 to 3 years. I have to take the course again in another 3 years to continue getting the 10% discount.
You need to contact your insurance company to inquire about it.
Or, you might try contacting other insurance companies who do offer such discounts. I don't know about you but I can't afford to pass up a 10% (one free payment) discount each year. It's like getting a one free payment !!! How can anyone pass this up!!

This isn't really about insurance. The intent is to get all of the 'Lightning Owners' into some kind of defensive driving class.
This is a major goal for the site this year. It was voted on and approved by both houses and carried forth by a two thirds majority of the Board Of Supervisors.
But, since you don't read any of the other Forums, you wouldn't know anything about that, wouldja?
In any case, this attempt failed.
We will regroup and attack again.

So is this course free? It must be if it saves you one full payment right? Otherwise you would have to subtract the cost of this BS time wasting class from the amount that you save on insurance. Still may be worth it for some depending on what they pay in insurance.
Raoul...why would we read another forum? We own Lightning's, and this is the Lightning forum.
I don't speak for anyone else, but I personally would never own any pickup other than the Lightning (save for the sweet Syclone and the SSR..if you can really call that a truck). I am interested in performance, not trucks.

Defensive Driving Courses...................
Right..............! I can see it now--this elderly(don't say it--I'm 62 myself) man or woman is telling us about how not to confuse the brake pedal with the gas pedal, how to look both ways--several times before you cross the intersection, how to pass a 'slower'(may be hard to find) moving vehicle safely, how to look over your rt. shoulder when backing up, etc., etc. This is what they(AARP) call defensive driving.
Well, I got a better idea. Sign up with a high performance driver's school--usually put on by a Porsche, BMW, Corvette, etc. car club at a real race course(Road Atlanta or Roebling Road in Ga.) and learn how to save your life by driving better.

Thanks for the tip Bill.
A buddy and me were just discussing a defensive drivers course
today. He has to take it because of an incident, that I will not go
into details about. He mentioned he could get a discount on
insurance for it. I never gave a thought about myself taking it....
I think I will go down with him and check it out myself. I believe he did say the course would cost some money?

Bill:
I owe you an apology ! After rereading my earlier reply to your thread, I realized that it sounded like what I said was directed at you. I didn't mean it that way, but it did.
You were being helpful and I 'lashed' out at you. I should not have put it the way that I did after all, you are a fellow f150 owner and deserve my respect. I hope you will accept this apology. and overlook my 'immaturity'(at 62, I should know better).
Best personal regards,
Dan
p.s. I just can't abide the AARP, but that's another topic.

Apology Accepted ....
I thought the same thing about the AARP Defensive Driving Course. I thought, "I know all this stuff. After all, I've been driving for a lot of years. What can they teach me?"
I hate to say this, but recently, I bought a E4 Red Door Handle off of brand new "L" in a junk yard, that had been rolled by someone who might have benifited by taking a defensive driving course.
Well, to tell the truth, I did gain some valuable points of information from the two 4-Hour Classes. But, the main things I gained were; I came away more "awareness" of how to react or not react to the other drivers on the road. Like road rage and taking unnecessary chances. I decided that I was guilty of both of those mistakes all too often. And I discovered there are some new rules and laws about complex street, bike and pedestrian lanes that I hadn't given any thought to because we don't have them yet where I live.
But, the $10 charge, and 8 hours of my time were well worth it, because I saved 10% right off the top of my insurance bill.

You should have got the SuperCharger, it was worth 100hp.
That door handle is only about 5hp, tops.
Now, you're going to have to grow one sideburn for the Lightning Handle side and you'll be halfway cool.

Hmmmmmmm...
