Question For Anyone Using Traction Bars?
Question For Anyone Using Traction Bars?
I am thinking about purchasing a set of traction bars and would like to know what kind of 60 foot time reduction should I expect to see from JDM, Truk Tracks or Cal Tracks? Also does any of these three help traction on the street with F-1's?
The Truck-Traks were primarily designed to use on the street. They are pretty inert, until you need them. They rely on a slight rotation of the rear end upward, before they actually begin to push down on the rear tires.
As you know, street traction on F-1's depends on many factors. The most prominent being your right foot. There isn't a traction bar made that will harness the massive torque that these trucks put out. If you mash the pedal to the floor, you will still smoke the tires.
The feedback that I am getting from my customers, is that the trucks are much more stable under hard acceleration with the Truck-Traks. Weight is transfered to the rear tires more evenly, hence straighter launches.
I found my greatest gains in traction when I used my Truck-Traks along with ET Streets. I did a back to back test on Jim Reinholt's truck at Carlsbad Raceway a few months back. He improved almost .1 in 60' with the Truck-Traks.
I know that Sal has used the Truck-Traks and gotten 60' times in the low 1.7 sec. range. He probably has more 1/4 mile experience with them than I do. You might check with him for his opinion.

Before I put my JDM traction bars I was getting any where from 1.9-2.2 60' times
Since the addition of the tractin bars I am pritty cosistantly getting 1.8 60' times, with a few 1.7 launches.
I notice that the truck launches much straighter, and when I do get wheel spin the tires grab a lot quicker.
It will be interesting to see what my 60' times are this spring when I add a new torque converter and switch to slicks.
On the street I get the same benifits as I get at the track, and the truck seams more stable
I used to have the CalTracs, and while they did help get rid of axle twist, they didn't help in weight transfer like the JDM bars. If anything they raised the rear of the truck. I haven't tried the truck tracs so I can't comment on how they work.
Hope that answers some of your questions.

Hankfan, Ive got the adaptors made for the Hotchkis rear leaves.
I would like you to conform the thickness of the rear springs about 6" infront of the axle and 6" behind the axle. They should be 1" total. If this is so, the Truck-Traks will fit with the adaptors.
Email me the information.
I also fitted a Roush rear suspension on Friday. With a little modification of the adaptors, we can do those trucks too.

I use Cal tracs. Have used them on vehicles other than my Lightning in the past. Very well made, highly regarded product. I got mine from Sal because his are modified to fit our trucks. They do lift the rear of your truck when you power brake. Then drop the rear when you launch to transfer weight. They are designed to do that.

I use Cal tracs and MT ET Streets. I figure the Cal tracs were good for .1 to .15 reduction in 60 ft times. Times will vary with each track and how they prep. I don't race on the street as I have high mileage tires that really break loose easily.
