Smile Anyone know the $$ for new internals/

Anyone know how many greenbacks it cost for new internals? Let's use manley rods and je pistons for example plus rings and pins... all parts needed. I need to know what L owners have actually paid for there upgraded parts or if any tuners have a package price yet? There has got to be someone who can answer this...if they do not want to post about it please e-mail me at gtheel@aol.com . thanks

Greg, I am putting together a package deal to sell for people who want to upgrade. The package will come with pistons, rods, rod bearings, main bearings, rings, main studs, head studs, and hi volume oil pump. This will basically be the same stuff that's in my motor, except we have a new piston design for these motors over the one I am using now. I should have pricing this week, I'll post it as soon as I have it.

Here are some rough prices if you were to go out and buy the parts seperately

Pistons $320.00 Summit price on TRW pistons
Rods $450.00 Manleys web page 5.4 H beam rods
Rings $120.00 Summit total seal
Bearings $60.00 Summit Federal Mogal
Gaskets $60.00 Summit Fel pro engine kit
Bolts & Studs $100.00 Summit ARP engine bolt kit

That comes out to about $1100.00 for the parts

These are just rough estimated prices, some of these prices may be off a little. As there is not a listing for the Modular engine in there catalog. I used other engines for some of the pricing.

Manley rods are now $400.00 for the set. (you can buy direct)
New Ford Crank is about $150.00 ( not really required)
Reground Crane Cams and lash caps in under $300.00
Custom Forged Pistons about $800.00 (wide choice of Mfg.)
Rings, bearings and gaskets will bring the price up.

Thanks everyone, i already looked in the summit catalog and on various sites but the idea of buying internals that someone else has not already tested in there L could be way more costly than going with a proven set up...especially when i don't do internals myself. This brings me to another question..... does around 2k sound about right for installing these parts, knowing that this would be done by an engine builder on the side and not on an engine shops time?

What is a proven setup? Are you suggesting that someone has one or would you be trying to steer direction a certain way. Ford has tested the Manley rods, I can't say any more. They are a quality poduct and the price is Very good right now. Pistons: the JE's are good but what the heck so are the stock Ford units. What most people must Know and Understand is that the RODS are the weak link in the Modular Motors.

Side note- If the 2G's does not include the parts purchase you better change your clothes you got hosed.

HEAD STUDS?????? Why with good common sense or with sound engineering undestanding would you want to stud the heads on a modular motor. First off these are not 5Oh's they have good clamping force with bolts. Look for blown head gaskets on a modular and you will be hard press to find one. Secondly you will need to pull you motor if you ever wish to pull the heads. So remember that and then pay attention to THIS. To save money Ford went cheap on the number of thread turns on the spark plug holes. Now you know why you can blow them out. So ask yourself this do you really want to pull your motor when something minor goes wrong?

Billybob,I am fine with the manely rods, but have not heard alot about piston brands used in an L. What i mean when i say proven ,is someone who has upgraded internals on there L[anybody] Speak the he -doulble hockey sticks up about it. This 2k quote includes pistons, rods and balancing. I am no expert but am told that if you do the rods, that it makes sense to do the pistons and of course balancing and the 2k included no parts but does include taking the motor out and reinstallation. By the way ,i was not hard pressed to find my drivers side head gasket blown right after i noticed that i needed to add water to my radiator and steam shooting out my white washed tailpipes. You see that i included my e-mail in my original post..i did this so someone like yourself could let me in on what i should be paying for parts labor and maybe even a reference as to where to get it done, hint hint. I am clearly asking and not trying to steer anyone, anywere. So you are saying use manely rods, forget the pistons and i should be paying about how much? and what about balancing.

Cool

Glad that you liked the page. Diamond makes a nice piston and they are here in Southeastern Mi. Another thing to remember is that with the Manley rods you have a choice of wrist pin dia. On the issue of head studs I just don't care for that route I know the durability record for these motors and I don't like being forced to pull the engine to remove a cylinder head. I also don't care for over spinning the supercharger. As for the 2G bill for R&R and balance and assemble of the motor that does sound better.
