Thumbs down Complete and Utter BS!!

I went to my "Friendly" local SVT dealer, not to mention any names "Freehold Ford" for some warranty service that would take several days. Well the idiot in the service dept says since I brought the car at another dealership they can't give me a loaner car because the owner only lets people who buys cars from them get loaner cars. And on top of that he said since Im 19 and not 21 they wouldn't give me one anyway. This is total Bullshi* I didn't have to be 21 to give them my damn money to buy the thing. I think Im gonna call SVT tomorrow and see what htey have to say. I tried to tell him that in the owners supplement guide it says you get a loaner car and does not mention a minumum age requirement. No one go to Freehold Ford for any type of service.

Any input ould be appreciated.

I went through this when I was under 21. I had a SVT Contour. Their insurance will not cover anyone under 21. What they did for me was find a Rental car place that would rent to under 21 and paid the extra charge they put on for being under 21. It sucks man, but some places wont rent to under 25. Check around!!

I made my dealership call SVT, and sure enough they changed their mind's and gave me the car. MOST car dealerships won't give ANYTHING away if they think they can get away with it.

I'm over 25 and my dealer told me that they don't have loaner cars - I was there for warranty work that would take several days.
I casually mentioned that loaner cars was a requirement for being an SVT dealership.....and I'd hate to see this dealer fall out of graces w/ SVT because they were unable to qualify any longer as an "SVT Dealer....not all Ford stores are SVT you know....."

They got me a loaner car for 7 days until the warranty work was completed.

As far as being under 21/25.....isn't the loaner car stated as a benefit with purchase in the owners manual supplement??? It probably doesn't have any caveats listed to get a loaner.....

Hey dude, sucks don't it. First off they should not give you a problem about buying it at another dealership, the loaner is an SVT thing not a dealership thing. But they can give you a hassle because of your age!!! I remember back when I was 19 I got dragged to a prom, anyway since I was the oldest they wanted me to rent a nice car, no can do. I think you had to be 24+ to get a rental car in NJ, the liability insurance thing.

Since I used to be a dealer tech, let me chime in on the loaner subject--

Loaner cars are under the sole control of the individual dealer. Ford has nothing to do with who gets a loaner car. Dealers buy these cars from themselves, and usually turn them over to the used car lot every two years. There is nothing that states you MUST get a loaner car. Lincoln owners and 01-up SVT owners are "entitled" to get a loaner car. What that means is that Ford will pay a loaner allowance on those vehicles to the dealer if the give the customer a loaner. Who the dealer chooses to give thier own cars to is entirely up to them, they own them, not Ford. And the dealer that I worked at did the same thing; loaners only went to customers who bought there cars there.

Like Tuner mentioned...It is up o the dealer to decide.

I brought my 2000 "L" in to have the Intercooler recall done under warranty a couple of weeks ago.
The service rep asked if I bought the truck from them, and I said no, he also asked if I had an extended warranty? Not sure why that would matter?
He said he didn't think I would get a loaner, but because it was an SVT, I might be able to get one.
Well, I dropped the truck off with no way to get home, so I could "persuade" him to get me one incase, and lo and behold, without saying a thing, he pointed me to the rental dept. and said to go pick one up!
It was a focus, but it was free so, who cares right?

Anyways, i think if you get a pleasant Service rep, if you're lucky, sometimes you can get things done your way...?

Good luck!

Sal, you are wrong on this one.

Take it to court and you will win hands down.

If there is one thing that gets me riled up more than another about Ford is their collective failure to keep promises.
They claim that every owner and lessee of 2001 SVT vehicles, "will be provided with a complementary loaner vehicle when their 2001 SVT vehicle is in for service (includes warranty work and routine maintenance, other than oil changes). The dealership will also wash and vacuum the customer's vehicle, unless requested otherwise."

There is no room for movement in that statement from the owners manual.

The 2001 SVT LIghtning product brochure states, "SVT owners also receive Premium Service from their dealer, which includes a loaner vehicle and complementary wash and vacuum. Expect nothing less from a "customer driven"company."

It seems to me that age is not a factor here. If you are a owner of a 2001 SVT you get a loaner.

That sounds like the dealership is supposed to provide a loaner vehicle if it wants to or not. It is not the dealers choice as to if they will provide a loaner vehicle!

CallSVT and ask them. 1-800-367-3788.

You can check out this news release from ford coporate also.

Maybe the Ford guys that watch this iste could pass the information from that site to the dealers and maybe even CEO's. They had better start following up before people start going elsewhere to buy cars/trucks.

If the dealer doesn't want to give you a loaner it is because they want to pocket the allowance Ford gives them for the loaner.

Here is a picture of the new 2001 Lightning owners guide supplement.

Drkone, you didn't get a loaner because you don't have a 2001/2002.

BTW, The last time I got a dealer loaner I put about 2500 miles on it. Too bad for the dealer it was a 2002 explorer.

Exclamation

I have a '99 Lightning, and when I took it in for the intercooler upgrade I was originally given the same crap about the loaner, but one call to SVT changed all that. I got an explorer loaner within minutes. I was also told that it's not just 2001 SVT's anymore that are entitled to loaners. ANY SVT Owner is entitled the loaner: here's the catch. . .you must take your vehicle to an SVT authorized dealership. Now, just because they are 'authorized' dealerships doesn't mean they won't still give you a bit of guff. . .but at least the phone call to SVT directly will correct the problem.

Later,

Most car rental companies don't rent vehicles to folks under 25, particularly the larger ones - Hertz, National, Avis. I remember when I started my consulting career at 24 and having to share rides until I was able to rent myself. It was purely an insurance issue, I've seen the specifics since one of our customers is a major car rental company.

I know it sucks, I've been there, but I'm sure the dealers are swayed by insurance concerns as well.

My girlfriend has a similair problem a few months back. She was 20 at the time, and got the same run-around about being too young. She asked to speak with the owner of the dealership when she went to pick her truck back up a few days laters and after explaining the situation was given a check for about a hundred dollars to reimburst her for the expenses she was intited too
