4# Pulley w/ stock belt??

Is it true that I can use the stock drive belt on the 4# lower pulley and stock upper pulley combo by simply grinding off the center stop on the tensioner arm? Does that cause any adverse reactions? Should the belt be replaced by a longer one?? I've got a brand new stock belt and I'd hate to trash it! Thanks..... Jack

Save the new stock belt for if you go back to stock and buy another belt that fits. There's no point in grinding anything if you dont have to.

You don't want to use the stock belt for a 4 lb pulley. Yes it will fit on, but you'll be putting extra tension on the belt that's really not healthy for the blower snout. Use the Gates K080670.

Yes if you remove the little tab on the tensioner it will fit. Have seen it done with a JDM pulley and a JL pulley. Both 4-pounders and both using the stock belt.

That's right, should work fine.
JL told me the reason he includes a new, longer belt w/ the 4 lb pulley is that he doesn't want to ask his customers to break off the stop tab; but if you do, it works..

Thanks for the replies. I went out and bought the longer belt for 2 reasons. The first being that I got a quick response and a part number. (that's why I love this site). And #2 ... there was this one little, teensy, tiinsey, little 6" square of open space in MY WHOLE DAMN GARAGE!!! that isn't covered with "STOCK" parts. It just didn't seem right so I bought the replacement. Ah, I feel much better now that I've discussed this openly. Please don't mention this to my wife (if ya know what I mean!!) Peace..Jack

I did mine today. Took a Snapon chisel and hit that tit with a ballpean hammer and after about 4 whacks it was gone. Used stock belt which was not easy to get on but could not find a part number for the next size up belt. The gates book we were using didn't even have the right part number for the stock belt because we had it in stock at my sponsors shop and it was two feet too long. Took two of us to get belt on. May order up the longer belt now that I have the part number, but JDM said it was not necessary as the stock belt would work fine.
