Ok, guys, here's the skinny on the web site and message board -
We (the NLOC site) outstripped our bandwidth allocation apparently and
instead of warning us or even informing us, they (they being the hosting
service) simply pulled the plug on the site until the problem was fixed.
Well, apparently some ephemeral person named "Greg" at our hosting service is
who shut down the server and without his approval, NO ONE there could start
it back up, even for me to make a simple page to let everyone know what was
happening. No amount of begging, threatening, or pleading could alter their
course.
So, honestly, I told them where they could stick their hosting and we're
moving. I spent last night downloading 450 MB worth of stuff to my computer,
and am spending tonight uploading it to the new host, though honestly it may
take a day or two more to get all the little kinks and idiosyncracies ironed
out.
If there's a bright spot, it's that this happened when we can do something to
fix it and not when I was away on vacation working through a dial-up
connection.
Look for the site to be back up on 1/9/02 or 1/10/02 with a new service.
It'll still be nloc.org and all the old messages will still be available.
There may be some growing pains, but after the surgery and therapy we expect
things to be better-than-new.
Sorry, guys, and thanks for your support.
Sincerely,
Jeff S.

Funny most Hosts would prefer to send a warning email like ... "You are over your limit and we are billing you per MB at $XX.00 per MB till you sign a bigger contract or correct the problem.. Have a nice day"
( yep I have gotten those emails )
That way the site stays up they keep a customer.. and hey they get paid for the additional usage... What a concept... Too bad more companies dont have a better customer focus...
Good Luck Guys
Doug
PS Since this thread should answer any questions, I have closed the thread and will make it sticky and delete any more " Where is NLOC threads" to keep the clutter down.
