Talking Long lost Lightning twin separated at birth?

Has anyone ever noticed that the Ferrari F355 shares many of the same "facial features" as the Lightning? Just compare the grill shape and design, the protruding double-chin spoiler, and those familiar foglights. (I wonder if Ferrari foglights crack as often as ours do???) The two cars could be twins separated at birth, but it's obvious the Lightning must have ended up with all of the good genes.

Also note the four shiny wheels complete with black tires, and sloped windshield.

Nice images where were they taken?

Also why in one image the ferrari is a convertiable and the other a hard top even though they look like they were taken at the same time and place?

Ferrari vs Lightning

I was going to ask who won the race. But it looks a little like Photoshop was present in those pics. But yes. There is a slight similarity in the lower grill work in both.

The Lightning is mine, and I "photochopped" (or superimposed) the Ferrari F355 into the images. Some are more convincing than others, of course. I took the pics of my L by a construction site near Dulles Airport - only wish I had the Ferrari too.

Here's a little Frankenstein action for you:

There are at least a hundred other cars/trucks that have those same things. Your truck is nice, but get over yourself man.

Logical... please list a few of those cars/trucks. I don't doubt you, but the nose on each of the above vehicles share a lot of the same stying attributes. I have a BS in Product Design and am a practicing designer by profession, so I'm probably a little more "sensitive" to these types of visual cues. And I'm only talking about the bumper cover/nose styling, not the whole car. Sure it's a stretch, but I just thought it would be amusing to see the two side by side to confirm (or deny) my long-time suspicions. I happen to like the designs of both vehicles, and the front-end styling is a common strong point for both to me.

If you want to see similar car styling, check out the current VW Beetle and Audi TT. Look familiar? That's because they were both designed by the same guy. Think the classic Porsche 911 looks like the old Beetle? Well that's because they were both designed by Porsche (but admittedly it was Ferdinand's son who actually finalized the styling of the 911).

You want me to "get over myself?" I hope you were just kidding. I posted these pics for fun. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy them - I wasn't trying to say my L was better than a Ferrari.

LoverCrazyJay, not too shabby for your first attempt. Keep working on blending the edges of where you copied/pasted. I learned Photoshop by editing car images and it's a fun way to explore the software's features. Keep pacticing!

BMW-

I have been in automotive body design and development for 17 years. As long as you and I both know it is a huge stretch, then we are fine. And sorry about the "get over yourself" comment. I guess I was just poking a little fun at the Lightning owners in general and should have worded it better. It was just that I had just read a whole string of "I never take mine through a carwash", "I leave it in the garage all winter", "I raced the space shuttle and handed him his a$$", "I leave it at home on new years", "I only use special imported waxes"............

I understand passion about cars and went through that phase too with a few, but my perspective is a little older now and I see things differently. I guess I should have said "get over your trucks". And I mean that in a "go out and live life" kind of way, not a "wind up all the L owners" way.

Anyhow, if you are still talking to me, what kind of design do you do?

Hi Logical,

Of course I am still talking to you. I didn't mean to come across as being pissed or annoyed at you - I was just confused about your response to my original post (which I thought was relatively "harmless"). I agree with you completely: the Lightning is a FORD TRUCK, and probably doesn't merit some of the "special treatment" some owners lavish on their L's. I happen to drive mine every day to work, etc, but if it makes someone else happy to keep it stored all winter and only drive it on warm Sundays, well... to each his own I guess. One thing we all have in common is that we do regard our Lightnings as something special - thank you Ford for producing such a beast! There's NOTHING else like the Lightning, but there are at least a few cars like the Ferrari...

Glad to see another Lightning owner with a design/development background - what kind of work have you done and what are you doing now? While my degree is in Product Design, I somehow backed into electronic media design to pay the bills (and because I didn't want to relocate to the west coast). I briefly considered a car design job at GM, but decided I wouldn't be happy in Detroit either. (Too bad I didn't go, the Asstek and Avalanche could have used a little help.) Now I get paid to crank out web designs and interative media, but I combine my passion for cars and computers by designing and modeling cars for computer games in my spare time. It would be nice to get back into the strict discipline of transportation design, but right now web and graphic design can pay me more money and allow me to live where I like. Who knows what I'll be doing a few years from now though.... lord knows I never thought I'd be driving a Lightning a few years back.

Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

Question

which Ferrari model is referenced in the SVT sales brochure, that compares it's performance to the Lightning's?
