Spanky,

Yes you are correct the alpines do draw quite a bit of power. ( I was thinking you were specifically talking XM)They do recommend going to the fuse box or battery for the install. However, I do not use the factory amplifer hence there is no need for the extra wiring. I have seen no problems so far by using the factory wiring. Although most of the ones I put in are running factory speakers(or polks), which were designed to be effiecent and again do not use all the power available from teh alpine.

We actually use 'smart harnesses' from metra which do not even have the transformer/power supply box on the harness, and again I have not noticed any problems so far. Sooo my recommendation is to try it both ways, if it makes no diffearnce let the factory wiring surfice. This deck also has a 20 amp fuse in it, and for a long run to the battery this 16 gauge crap that comes on the harness is far too small. Sooo I think alpine is lookin for a clean source of power mainly.

For whomever asked about that terk I think its the sr1. sr2 is the glass mount.

Mounting is nothing more than double sided tape. You can fish the wires through the harness for the 3rd brake light, and with enough tuggin you can get the wires through where I did. Works great, and funny it even works inside my garage.

You cannot mount hte antennas inside. Why? Microwaves do not like glass/reflective materials. Don't believe me? Go sit your dss dish inside your house, i bet you cant get it past 10 on the signal strength if that. Same thing applies to the Sat radios.

Hope this helps, and GET YOUR XM! its awesome, and from what a friend of mine that works for XM tells me, they are getting ready to start doing the live concerts!!!!!

Hey, you Alpine guys, do you know if there is an XM module for my IVA-C800 yet? Also, if one of you guys that knows alot about the available accessories for Alpine's, I'd love an email because I've had a hard time finding out some info.

I know the 1003 display is XM ready, but I don't want to downgrade my headunit.

Thepawn.

Well From what i understand they are supposed to have a XM unit coming out that works with any AI-net device. I am sure they will show it at CES next week, and if i get a chance i'll swing by their booth and find out.

Trash,

Can you handle 3 wires, and two antenna plug ins? Both teh RF units and the direct link units are just that easy.

Also, if any of you are attending CES, my buddy did the alpine car this year, and will surely be worth lookin at. Its a new BMW X5, with monitors IN the body panels...should prove to be interesting. =)

Also you can always do an external XM unit, and get the AI-Net aux-in adaptor or any of your extra video inputs on the IVAC800. Just a thought if you gotta have XM.

I can wait for the Alpine made model, if it integrates nicely into the system through AI-Net.

Crazy --- the other problem I've run into. I've got a G320 DSP and the NVE-852A navigation...normally, the 852A would soften any music playing and speak its directions over it, but with the G320, according to Alpine, its not currently possible to do it.

Do you know of anyway I can either A -- get the nav unit to properly mute output that is fed through the G320 so it can speak over the music or B -- hook up an external speaker to the 852A so I can hear directions while listening to music?

Thanks!
Daniel
