Overdrive "OFF" light

Just a quick question for you experts out there. Is the overdrive off light a small bulb or an LED? Just wondering if it will last basically forever or will I have to change out a bulb in the future. I always drive with OD off in the city so I am curious about longevity of the light. Thanks.

Not so--at least on mine--it shifts into OD at about 40mph--give or take 1 or 2mph. Now, at the track, it never gets into OD--it's turned off while running the 1/4.

A tranny guy I know advises allways turn O/D off. At around 40 mph it will shift if you slow down it will shift again this constand (hunting) will cause premature failure. As he told me leave it off until 50mph.

I would advise you to do exactly oppisite. The computer knows better than when to shift, even when it's hunting for gears. The only thing is it's annoying at times when you're towing etc....
But even then it knows better, the O/D off button is the most worthless switch in the truck, it should be a big obnoxoius button in the glove box labelled "Heavy Towing in Mountains at High Temp Mode", and any other time it should be ignored.

Just what I think,

G

I use mine going into 270 degree on and off ramps. Back off the throttle, hit button (for engine braking and to bring revs up), hold constant speed through curve (~55 on F1's, ~40 on Winter Dualers), gas it when it starts to straighten out and you're in perfect position merge, hit button again when back to cruising speed.

Factory Tech: I know you are an expert on this, but I agree with DHF and LROD. The tranny doesn't do what I want it to when it's in O/D. IMO, O/D is worthless on this truck unless I'm on the highway.

I still enjoy these "on or off" debates but does anyone have an answer to my original question? I know there are people here who have takes their shifter apart or broken it. Does anyone know if the OD OFF light is a bulb or an LED? Just want to know for peace of mind. Thanks.

Dan,
Woah, what's this, someone asks a question and tries to keep the thread on topic??? You must be banned Sorry, I don't know, but maybe one of the folks that bought the billet shift handle noticed during replacement procedure.
