Burning Oil???????

A grave concern, maybe someone here can help. Just a few hundred miles from my next oil change, I decided to check the level...To my surprise I am about .5qt low!!! I have been concerned for a while because I've been getting a puff of white smoke upon startup. Has anyone experienced this? Anyone losing oil? I think I'll be heading to the dealer soon. All replies are greatly appreciated.

I forgot to mention that I have over 10K miles on it................

Just keep an eye on it. That's not uncommon as piston rings sometimes take a few miles to seat.

I see where you added that you have 10K miles on it. I've had 3 new Fords and they all would use between 1/2 and 1 quart between changes. I think Ford "says" that up to 1 quart every 800 miles is ok. Of course I dont agree with this. Still though, keep an eye on it and if it increases to over a quart between changes, take it to the dealer.

Intake..............

You may find some of it in the intake boot-throttle body area. There is a 'straw'/tube connecting the boot to the lft. cam cover and the PCV(rt. cam cover) may cause oil to get into the plenum. An oil breather cap and/or a filter put in place of the lft. cam cover tube may reduce(but hasn't eliminated mine) the unwanted oil in the intake.
