Sorry to post downer news, but hopefully it'll persuade some drivers to use race tracks and not the street.

I have to concur...

Although I love this site, I detest the acceptance of street racing with some of its members. It is hard to take a group of people seriously when the very message base that supports the ownership of all flavors of Ford truck products is tainted by irresponsible behavior.

Personally, I'l like to see all message threads where someone brags about a "kill" immediately deleted. They do not present the side of responsible ownership and driving that should be present in an open forum that is sometimes used to prove to Ford and other manufacturers of problems and home-grown solutions to those problems.

Spike: being from the area, do you remember the one earlier this year in Oakland? Street racing in his Comaro when he hit that lady in her Volvo, both killed. And some dumbass's don't learn from others mistakes.

My own random flogging of a very dead horse...

Just because someone posts a 'kill' doesn't mean they were street racing. A lot of my 'kills' don't even involve speeding, and I don't post them anyway. But this board has a pretty realistic cross section of L owners, and covers the full spectrum of their typical behaviors. To think that someone who owns a L isn't going to engage in a little 'stoplight Gran Prix' is entirely naive. I very seldom back down from a little 'light to light' action...not really racing, but not letting the other person cut you off. That type of driving is the norm around here. I think most 'kills' evolve from this type of behavior, and that is where responsible people make a decision not to let the fun get out of hand. If you get drawn into a situation that involves going more than about 10 mph over the speed limit, or changing lanes multiple times, you are in danger of losing good judgement. Not being able to disengage the competive behavior when circumstances dictate danger then becomes street racing. The main focus of your behavior is beating the other person, with little regard for anyone's safety. On the other hand, the people who say 'just let them go, you'll just be one car later to work' don't really grasp the whole human behavior thing, and irritate me just as much as some immature drivers.

Organized street racing is a totally different animal, and I wholeheartedly despise it. These contests involve serious speeds, usually without any thought to safety, or even mortality.

If you really want to race, go to the track. This young man is really learning this the hard way.

I won't lie and say that I never do anyting on the street, but I also believe that it is a momentary lapse in common sense when I do. I will not try to fool myself into believing that it is innocent fun, and I definitely would not say that it is responsible. Being responsible would be ignoring the other person and carrying on with your business in a legal manner, which in most cases now days, that isn't done anyway.

Where I live, if you cut it off at 10 MPH above the speed limit, that is one hell of a short challenge.

dang!!

that is crazy. i can not even imagine the guilt he will have for the rest of his life. on the bright side...he will probably never street race again. but there is no real brightside in a situation like this. i just hope he does not commit suicide...another death is not the answere.

SPIKE- Awesome puppies, Spike. A friend just had to put his Rhodesian down at 6 years from cancer. Been six weeks and he's still hurting bad. I just had to put my Golden down two days after Thanksgiving. He was 13 and 1/2. It was like I lost my boy. Still have my German Shepherd(born in Germany), he's coming up on three-he's also my work partner. Bet you wish you could keep all those pups at home, huh?

Oh, and street racing is for fools. Nine times out of ten an innocent civilian pays the ultimate price. I know, I have had to notify the relatives. Real men race on the track. Gangsters, punks, and idiots race on surface streets. And there is NO justification for it.

Driving around in a high horsepower vehicle is a hard thing to do when that is the sole reason you bought the thing in the first place. Knowing you have a high horsepower vehicle is the easy part. Take the easy path and be smart, shrug off the punks in there ricers because you already know you can chew them, and remember these trucks are the locomotives in the sport car game (4750lbs!) and they will do huge damage to a small car. :o Sorry if I'm boring you but I see a lot of crazy stuff coming home from work at 3:00AM.
