FACT #1-Traffic enforcement=revenue $ for city, county, and state. Somebody has to pay for all of those sucking off the government ti#. Those of us in California, Texas and Florida know this better than the rest of the country. We have more uninsured drivers and uninsured expectant mothers than in any other states. The fact that two of these three states are situated along the U.S.-Mexican border might have something to do with it. Just maybe, huh? I sure don't like it, but then I sure don't make the stinkin' laws either.
FACT #2-However, only a small percentage of any law enforcement department are traffic officers. The majority of municipal officers and federal agents are dealing with the bullsh$%, crap and garbage that most people wouldn't deal with even if they were paid $150,000 a year.
And Finally, FACT #3-If you drive like an idiot, or act a complete *** when you do get pulled over for driving like an idiot, then chances are you might get cited. However, if you are a law abiding taxpayer and display even a half ounce of decency towards a man who has had nothing but **** thrown in his face all day then you may get off with a verbal warning or less. Think about it, Slvrbolt, next time you call a law enforcement officer a pig.

Uhhhh... Read The Post Again!
Gotta:
There was, in fact, no wholesale slagging of the "law enforcement" community in my earlier posts. I suggest you give them another read and attempt to digest. I'll also give you and others a hand and give a brief synopsis:
1) The entire "traffic law" culture in the US (which is the dirty, incestuous progeny of the the law enforcement, legal, judicial, and insurance communities) is a disgusting, offensive sham. Completely sickening, particularly in a world context. Those who perpetuate this nastiness (which includes, to a great extent, "traffic cops") sicken me, and in my opinion, are sub-human.
2) Policemen who actually go out and capture CRIMINALS (a novel concept there!) are worthy of our respect, at the very least, for executing a dangerous and essential job well. Those who leverage the sanction of the government to extort motorists do NOT deserve anything but misery.
3) Recognize that "It's my job" is NOT, in any way, a valid excuse for the perpetration of naughtiness. If your employer asks you to do something dista****l, GET ANOTHER JOB, DUMMY!
It's all very simple, really.

When I said I don't make the laws I was not referring to revenue taxation traffic laws but rather all the wonderful laws and social programs which end up leaving state, city and county coffers strapped for cash. These government agencies then turn towards an easy source of cash-the motorist. I agree that speed limits are often set, not for safety reasons, but for taxation purposes. In a socialist society, those who work for their money will always pay for those who don't.
In San Diego, the city installed red light cameras at a number of intersections. The police had nothing to do with them. In fact, several on-duty police officers and federal agents in marked patrol cars were caught by the city's cameras apparently running a red light. The pictures and tickets were then sent to the respective departments. I am personally aware of two cases, the officers were actually suspended without pay for one day each. Now it comes out that the company that installed the cameras received a cut from every ticket issued. So, thinking like any good business, they shortened the yellows at the intersections where the cameras were installed, making it virtually impossible to get through the intersection without being caught by the camera.
By the way, I am not a traffic officer. And off duty law enforcement officers are subject to getting pulled over by the same ticket happy traffic officers as civilians are. And don't think for a second that cops don't get tickets. I can assure you they do. If a cop is a jerk with a civilian, then nine times out of ten he is a jerk with an off-duty law enforcement officer. I know, I have met some of them.
Peace

Sir,
Thanks, but no thanks...reading that post once was enough.
Yet again... you post your "opinion" and rely on name calling. Go ahead and get it all out of your system...you'll feel better!
Law enforcement officers are sworn to "enforce" all the State Laws (Statutes, Penal Codes, etc.) when taking the "Oath of Law Enforcement". Yes, that includes the rinky-dink civil traffic violations as well as misdemeanors and felonies. You see, WE do not get a choice as to which statutes WE enforce.
As with women and cars (trucks), some agencies are beautiful and fast and some are just plain ol' dogs. WE obviously know which type of agency works in your neck of the woods.
If you can do better and want to change your local agencies response to traffic violators do what I did. Fill out an application, go through the requisite process, strap up and DO THE DAMN JOB YOURSELF!....What do you mean you can't? Something holding ya' back?
Point being, you have declared yourself Judge and Juror on cops (traffic or otherwise)...your NOT! I really don't believe you go to work with a "bullet resistant" vest on..or do you?
Should you choose to debate this issue, please feel free to e-mail me personally. Other than that. please allow the members to get back to what WE enjoy...Lightnings and all manner related.

Do you know why traffic enforcement is done????? In my city, which is like nearly every city in America, we will have many more people killed in traffic crashes than by murder. Statistics show that speeding, running red lights/stop signs, DUI, and careless/reckless driving are responsible for almost all traffic related deaths. Traffic enforcement is also one of the most dangerous things we do as police officers.
People always get all pi$$ed off when I write them a speeding ticket. But most of us who have the misfortune to write those $125-$570 speeding tickets see it as saving lives. I can tell you right now that verbal warnings are a waste of time. 99% of the time when I give a warning for speeding, that driver will speed again before they even get home. I used to feel bad about writing expensive tickets. But it all changed late one rainy night when I had to drive to a 16 y/o teenagers house and tell her parents that thier honor roll student was just killed by a drunk driver who was speeding. Seeing them just break down crying over her being killed after leaving a school function on her way home really struck a nerve with me. No, I am not on a mission to write useless tickets because of that. But, that is an all too common end result of traffic violations. Can we be everywhere at once? no we can't, but we can atleast try to do the best we can.
I am tired of people second guessing and being the jury on honest police officers, but yet don't know crap about how we do our job. It seems like the people who whine the most are the chronic offenders who are 1 ticket away from losing thier license. They think the "pigs" are out to get them. These are the same ones who habitually breaks laws, but yet they wonder why they get so many tickets. Do I feel sorry when someone begs endlessly for a break and then I find out what thier driving record is like?? Heck no, they will almost definately get another ticket. To me, that person is a VERY high risk driver. We all pay dearly for people like that through insurance rates.
Are there bad cops out there?? Absolutely, after all, police officers are everyday citizens. Don't dump on all of us police officers just because of a couple bad ones.
This issue is dead. The thread is closed.
I will NOT tolerate this kind of abuse of anyones job.

I understand your frustration, however if you continue this type of closed mindedness you will have tough time here.
