What size Lower Pulley to run?
What size Lower Pulley to run?
I'm looking to buy a lower pulley and I'm wondering what is a good size pulley to run?
Keep in mind it's my daily driver and I'm not looking for something to radical.
Thanks for the advice

Let me just say I was very surprised when I bolted on my 3#. I sold it for a 4# and didn't notice any difference ( no seat of the pants that is) I liked my 3#. It gives the truck a good "kick in the pants." ( p.s. I too went 12.8's with nothing more than the 3# pulley and a chip with the stock filter!
Why not a lower pulley and a DUB upper pulley? that way you can run 2 pounds every day and when you want the extra boost you can swap out the upper for a 2.5lb one. Check out www.lightningforceperformance.com
I have a 3#. Very streetable, plus I have the chip set to shift just at max mfg. blower rpm (15000) to be safe.
I think JL was the only one to sell the 3#, but I'm not sure he carries them anymore?

we sell the 4#,5#,6# now. our sales for the 3# fell off dramatically once we offered the 4,5,6.. the 4# is good for an everyday driver who dosn't look for every little ounce of power! the 5# is for the guy who is in between *street* & *race* and the 6# is for the Guy or Gal

OneFastRide, we currenty offer a 2, 4 and have a 6 lb pulley coming soon.
The 2 lb lower is a great bolt on for a stock type truck. It does not "need" a chip change (although it is best to do so) and you can safely run it with the stock plugs. It works well for towing, and we have had no issues with the poor gas some states have. It's a great part for an all around daily driven truck that will see some track time no and then.
The 4 lb pulley is good for the average street/strip type truck. I don't suggest it if you are going to tow something heavy, like another vehicle or a camper. Some have had detonation problems in areas of poor gas. It will require a better spark plug, and you definately need a chip reburned for it. If your truck sees no towing duty, you have good gas, and like to hit the track, it's a good choice.
The 6 lb pulley is really a race only type setup. You can drive around on it, but you really need to pay close attention to the truck. You will need better plugs and a chip change for sure, and to use it's full potential, you should have most of the other avialable bolt ons. I don't suggest this one for a daily driven truck.
It sounds to me like the 2 or the 4 is what you need. Both will put a smile on your face. Obviously the higher you go, the more you will have to pay attention to the trucks needs. Decide which is for you based on my suggestions and how you use the truck. If you have any other questions, please ask.

It would be tough to talk about pulleys soley in the abstract without marketing but it is possible....
In My opinion a 2# is perfect for a daily driver. The higher numbers may be too much for the daily grind of traffic. Plus the real high #'s pretty much demand additional cooling. The extra boost really heats the incoming air.

I want to hear from all the vendors, think it's great. I'm in the market for a pulley and want to get the right one the first time out. I'll go back to where I got my chip but I like the friendly competition. It's good for all of us buyers [no price gouging] and the tuners have to stay "one up" on the next or else. Kind of cool that you can put up a post and have guys there to sell you a pulley right away? Of coarse they are the in thing right now so you got to sell 'em while you can. Good luck to all.
