Thumbs down dissapointed at 2002 lightning

Well I was sitting around Saturday morning, so I decided to go look at trucks. I needed to get a truck so that I could pull my mustang with. When I went to the dealership they had a new 2002 Lightning with my name on it. I had a 2001 mustang GT that I used as a trade in. Saturday night was fun driving it around I was real impressed with the power that this truck had. Anyway I get up Sunday to go have lunch with my parents and the truck is still running fine I left my glasses at home so I pull back into my driveway shut it off and run inside. When I go to leave again I notice white smoke just pouring at the exhaust. This struck me as a little odd sine it was around 50 degrees today. So I go back home pull in driveway get out of the truck to see if anything is leaking under the car. To my surprise not a drop of antifreeze or anything. I walk around the truck and when I get up by the exhaust I could just smell the gasoline. I mean this truck is running super rich. The check engine light is on anyway needless to say it's going back to the dealership Monday morning. I had to drive it into work tonight, it had a little bit of a vibration while driving on the highway. Any guesses what might be wrong. Sorry I just had to rant a little bit being how it is a brand new truck.

The smoke is normal for any new L. The engine light is a different story. I have 12000 miles on mine and still get the smoke about 1 out of every 20 startups.

The smoke is normal for a new motor. Our 2k1 motor did it, and im sure out new motor will too. It's just SVT's band-aid pistons. As to the CEL and vibration, im not sure. Take it to a dealor and see what codes pop up.

I had my 01 L back in the shop last week to have a SES light checked out....and when the tech started it up to bring it around....It speewed smoke really bad...like raw fuel...the cloud was probably 8 foot wide by 6 foot tall....LOL. Dont know why they run soooooo rich...i mean a little i can see...but to that extent? come on. He stopped and thought something was wrong..but I was like....nope...happens all the time.

Well there is always the chance of a lemon. Even if it is one most states have laws that allow you to get it replaced, i think Of course that is an extreme case. I have about 600M on mine now and on occaision it smokes allot. Never had any studdering issues or anything with it though.

With a strong gas smell, I would guess you have a faulty sensor(maybee a O2, MAS, or a EGR sensor)
These trucks all run rich, I think Ford does this because they know a lot of us are going to chip them.

I'm sure if Ford didn't tune these trucks to run so rich there would be more blown engines and jacked up sparkplugs.

Think about it. Ever seen a blown dragster or funny without a
fuel regulator? Gotta have more fuel than needed with a blower.
Sending some back to the tank is better than starving a blower.

Thats the same thing that our Mustang did after we dought it. It was a faulty O2 sensor. Easy to fix. I actually think therewas just crap on the sensor.

I've always heard that you have 3 days to take a new vehicle back after you buy it (in case something turns up that is crappy) but I don't know this for sure. If I were you I really be trying to find out if that is true and if so, I'd probably take it back and try a different one.

Later,
Roger

Well it appears those who guessed a stuck injector were correct. This should give you an idea of how bad it was, I got about 110 miles on a full tank of gas. They were supposed to overnight a new injector from New York so hopefully it will get here today and I can get back on the road.

Change your oil and filter--it has to be diluted with gas.

Thats great advice, I agree make sure they change the oil.

I am happy it wasn't anything major, I am sure you will be happy from now on.
