two dead cylinders, definition please

ok

here is all the other info on what happened
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...threadid=58928

Anyway, I was thinking that two dead cylinders is when the piston rings are fried or the valves are fried, am I right?

Two dead cylinders means that no power is being made in those two. Could be fuel(doubt it) could be spark(most likely) or could be something with the valves or rings(doubt it). Jeff

ok well the tech at the shop told me it wasn't the plugs so it either has to be the valves or the rings, and i really doubt it being the fuel

Was the engine still idleing? If so was it making any weird noises? These 5.4's are prone to spinning rod bearings... I have not heard of any that have had prob;ems with rings or valves killing a cylinder. Jeff

yeah the engine would still idle, but barely

you know i bet i really bet that they are just lying to me to get more warranty money, the plugs are probably just bad and they didn't even look at them just hooked up the truck to the computer and it told them it had to dead cyclinders

2 dead cylinders is not good. Hold off on accusing them of any wrong doing. See what they say. Hopefully it's not as bad as it sounds...good luck. Jeff

Unhappy 2 dead cylinders!

Could be a lot of things!
First place to look would be the spark plugs! (already done)
2nd would be the coil packs! (probably) (hopefully!)
3rd would be fuel!
It gets bad from there!
Could be...valves, broken valve springs, rings, blown head gasket, bad cam shaft! etc.

From what i am hearing, the most common is spark plugs or coil packs!
Good luck!!!
Albert

"...These 5.4's are prone to spinning rod bearings..." (JeffsLightning)

Really?!?

A quick search of "rod bearing" in the Engines forum netted 17 references -- and a quick search of the first page of the first 6 sources didn't produce any results in support of your statement.

If there's a problem (with rod bearings), please help us understand.
