[Off Topic] PS2 DVD Remote
I know is this is waaaaay off topic but could any of you PS2 owners answer a couple of questions for me?
Is is true that you need a remote control for the PS2 in order to play DVD's? Also, is there any truth to what I hear about the PS2 only playing certain DVD's?
Thanks for the help and patients!

You do NOT need a remote to play DVDs through your PS2, that is only the case with the X-Box. The PS2 will play only region 1 DVDs. Which shouldn't be much of a problem considering that is all that is readily available in the US. Hope this helps.
Chipper,
No remote is needed to play dvd's in the PS2 but does make it easier with one... Also it does only play certain dvd's and they all have a code on the back of them... I believe the PS2 only plays dvd's marked with either a ALL or 1 marking... Hope this helps...

Hmmm,, there's lots of stuff you can do to get around only playing certain DVD's, but i would know nothing about that
anyways,,, region codes are just there for stupid reasons,, any dvd you buy from any music store,, supermarket or anywhere in this whole united states should be a region1,,, if its not,, just take it back. one thing is for sure though,,, for dvd playing purposes,,,,, always,,,, i repeat ALWAYS keep your ps2 from getting too much dust collected near it or around it. Also do not drop your PS2 too often and treat it with care,,, i know 5 different people who can still p[lay games,, but the dvd playing components of their ps2 will not work anymore,,, sony does not give a manufacturer warrenty out for free,, you have to buy one at time of purchase,,, sony's is only good for about 3 months i think..

If your shopping for a new console the xbox is the way to go as it does 5.1 and dts sound during gameplay which the ps2 won't plus it will do high def 1080i as well as widescreen.Another bonus is you can burn your own soundtrack for the games with the amazing amount of memory this new beast has. Think of the xbox as a lightning and the ps2 as a gt mustang.
Yea you can use the controller to play the dvd's and it will play all dvds you buy in the usa but i know Sony had a problem with the very first ps2's that came here with the dvd player. The people who got them first reported problems with playing certain dvds like they wouldnt play at all or they would skip really bad. Thats why the next shipments were new versions of the ps2 like you saw in the Gran Turismo Bundles. But other than that its a good dvd player.
