Question Bastard trim screws!!!!!

This might be the dumbest question ever asked on this board but here goes.......

How in the hell do you get those plastic trim screws out of the piece that goes over the fan shroud. I tried to just unscrew them but they didn't back out and the heads of the screws are rounding out. I tried this very carefully and still no success. I even tried to push up on the screw while trying to loosen them

You guys that have gone to electric fans or something had to remove this piece so can someone help me out here. RobG even painted his black (which BTW looks really trick).

Sorry so long.....Joe

I had to break a couple of mine. Either do that or you have to very slowly screw it out, and lift the screw driver up as you do it, otherwise the screw will just keep on spinning.

Angry They are A Bas@#*%

One thing I learned on my last F150 is if you put very much down force on the screws when you are trying to unscrew them, they will strip out and will be next to impossible to get out. When I removed the one in my L, I put just enough down force on the screws to keep the screwdriver from popping out of the crew head and they came out with no problems. Once they're stripped you basically have to just pull them out.

Cool

HI!... Yes they are a pain to get out. But if you use a very small "SLOT" screwdriver and lift up under the head of the plastic screw as you unscrew it with the other, it will come out with no problems. I replaced all mine with wall anchors and used stainless steel robinson headed screws.

First, I gotta say I was a little disappointed by this thread because I thought the topic was "bastard TWIN screws"...as in superchargers. Other than that thought...

Another option to consider is to use the same small flathead that Neal was talking about, but instead of lifting the collar up with it...use it to push in against the threads on the "collar" so that the teeth of the actual screw have something to grab a hold of. Once you get it out, then follow the oh-so-knowledgeable MRBBQMAN's advice and buy new ones to replace the hackedy-hack-hacked ones you just took out.

BTW- I still haven't followed this last step.

Hope this helps. Later...

Hey Soap
If you have a little eyeglass screw driver that will work good to help get the screws out. Also the ones bye the hood latch if your hands are small enough you can squeeze the tabs underneith to help get the threads to grab.

On my end anyways you're pic posted every time...

...but something I will give you a heads up about before the UBB ****'s wake up tomorrow morning and catch wind of whats going on is that there is a forum here on f150online specifically designed JUST so you can fool around with and fine tune your sig, so you don't have to do it here, and anger all the Lightning Giants that think a new response has been posted. I think the forum is called "Testing 1-2-3".

Later...

Unhappy oops

Thanks again MX.
Sorry administrator guys, it won't happen again. I was unaware of the testing 1-2-3 board. I erased my extras already.

Side cutters. Actually there is a special tool made for removing those and the christmas tree clips. It works pretty slick. I will post a pic as soon as I get my digi-cam.

Get you about 18 inches of monofilament fishing line. Wrap it under the collar. Pull up on the collar with the line and unscrew the plastic screw.
