im new here...just checking for opinions.
what do you recommend for shift kits on trhe 2001 L?
im pricing a full bassani system w/ shorty headers right now...i have a K&N FIPK on the way and im looking at chips as well...
any suggestions??

I thought K&N did not make a fipk kit for the L. If they do how do I get one?

 

hi Dan, glad to have you aboard. WOW now why would you want to go any faster! he he he. From what I've seen and read the exhaust system is about as good as it gets stock except for the sound quality. I think your going in the right direction if you do deside to change it. You will find lots of great opinions here on shift kits, chips, pulleys, air filters, fans, plugs and just about anything else you can imagine. Personally I am a big Johnny Lightning Fan and use all his products. He has been a great friend as well as consultant when I need to get advice. I'm sure everyone feels the same about there tuner of choice. If you have a specific question just ask it and someone will chime in I'm sure.

 

Go with the long tube headers vice the shorty's...better sound and performance. As far as the shift kit...if you wanna save your money for more mods...go with the line mod valve vice the shift kit. Works just as good. Superchips by JDM seems to be the choice chip...IMHO....Let us know what you decide

 

In the new Truckin magazine that I just got they have an article about the long tube headers on the Lightning. After reading that, it'll be the long tubers for me................................Phatford

 

Stick with JL(Johnny) or PSP(Sal) products.

If you ever plan to use Nitrous use PSP......

If not use JL products......

They both are great guys that will help any way they can. Sal has some great Non-NOS products as well. I just like staying with one product line though......

He and his crew have treated me great, and I love the way my truck runs. I felt he had the most knowledge of the three tuners.

I would call all the tuners and make your own decision.

I agree that the full Bassani is a waist of money, if you like the sound go for the bassani cat back system, and get some long tube headers. JDM just came out with a new redesigned long tube header that seem to free up the most power from our motors. They aren't cheep, but you get what you pay for. I am getting a set of the JDM long tubes in a few weeks

Hey Silverbullet, if I were you I would give JL a call. If you look at his track record he definetly has the largest number of fast trucks.
His service is great and his chips are the best. And he's willing to help you out in any circumstance.

Before you go waste your money on a Bassani exhaust, call Mike Reynolds @ 1-541-885-7730. He can sell you a high quality exhaust system with long-tube headers and will shave time off your e.t. I personally buy mostly from JL but purchased mods from JDM too.

Picking a chip is your decision. Go with either Sal, JL, or Jim.

Look around on this site to see what people say for a while before you go buy mods for your truck. It will pay off in the long run.

I would say there are very equal numbers of fast trucks with all the tuners. These tuners keep coming out with new programs all the time, so what is the fastest one week, will be surpased the next week.

The differance between the three tuners chips are allmost unmeasurable. I bet if you took the same truck and tried all three chips there would be allmost no differance.

I have met and bought products from all three tuners, they all have great products and service, and each have strong followings.

I have three friends who have JL equiped trucks, Two have allmost exactly the same mods as my truck, the other has a few more mods than me. When we race each other you never know who will win. I have beat each of them a few times, and they have beat me on a few runs. Thats how close we all run.

So be carefull when you say someone definetly has the most, fastest or best. Things change very quickly around here, so what MAY be true today, will not be true tomorow.

Last season 12.8 was flying, this year it is slow. Just wait till next season you are going to be amazed at all the trucks running 11's

TheSilver Bullet find these guys and ask them yourself, I think you will recognise where this pic was taken. Talk to fellow Florida owners. They will tell you what is true.

 

Ive goten parts from all three[four counting LFP]and i'm stickin' w/JDM.Always available w/great tech support or cust. service.Do a search and decide for yourself.

 

Its kinda like choosing between Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge as far as tuners go. Just take your pick. You cant go wrong with any of them. The main ones being JDM,JL, and PSP. My truck is JDM equipped and my buddy's is JL equipped. Both trucks have the same mods and as far as racing each other, it comes down to whoever gets in it first....they are that close! Neither of us could pull on the other one. Good Luck!

 

Ease up Don, I'm simply stating my opinion just like everyone else.
I know as well as the next guy things always change and go faster. Just like I plan on being the first in the 11's on F1's with no NOS, but this is just my plan, it doesn't mean it will happen. So take a chill pill, I'm not trying to start a "Tuner War" its just an opinion!
