I wish I had your dilemma when I was your age. Screw it, tell dad to buy you both.

I have the same problem as you do, I am 19 and am probably going to get a Lightning but before I wanted a Lightning I was thinking about getting a 02 SS, but have since decided against the SS and am going to get a 02 L in a couple of months. My problem is different though because my parents aren't getting it for me for Christmas. Too bad though.

Also like he said for insurance they rate it at a Regular F-150 so it would be a lot cheapier.

They are not insured as a regular F150 by any company worth a crap. Mine told me I had a L half way through the VIN # and told me total loss coverage was 25K brand new! If it is then the total loss replacement value will be about $10K short of your payoff amount. If you are insured as a plain F150 that is what they will replace it with. I have an idea! Go over to the Cobra board and ask them the same question

Why don't you just have your Daddy make the decision for you?

Went for a ride in Lightning Bob's 99 supercharged cobra. Awesome is the only word id use. Im definately not ready for something that fast. Id go for the truck its tons of fun. BUT if you went with the cobra definately put a NOVI blower on it.

Just think of what you need. Remember. the Lightning will only allow you to carry one other person...UNLESS they all sit in the bed.
Fuel economy would be the other issue....Be prepared to get 10-14mpg, the gas bill adds up. Other than that, I say you can't go wrong either way. I was in this same position 6 months ago, actually, I had preordered a '01 Cobra and was ready to take delivery. Saw a Silver '01 Lightning on the showroom floor and new I had to have one. Ended up going to Louisiana and picking up a Red '01 L. No regrets(Other than the damn gas).

Crazy,,,, i dont know where those words about insurance came from,,, i get AAA insurance,, the biggest insurance company in the state of michigan,,, and i only pay f-150 insurance rates,, only 20 more a month then my old ranger, they even know its an L,, i made sure of that, and its with full coverage. If you ask me anyways insurance on these more expensive cars should be cheaper,,, i think in general i'm a much more careless driver when the vehicle i'm in isn't worth a dime,,, i'd cry myself to death if i smashed my L

I have AIG insurance and they rated my 99 Lightning as a regular 150 for the 1 1/2 yrs I had it. When I traded for the 01 it also was rated as a 150,BUT at renewal time sumthing happened........now the Lightning ISN'T rated as a 150 but rather a high performance vehicle at an increase of $575.00 per year!

I am 18 and have 2 wrecks to my name (when I was 16).....when I had my V6 mustang I paid $155 dollars a month with State Farm for full coverage w/ a 500 dollar deductable....now, with my L, i pay 166 a month w/ the same coverage......I don't get it either....but hey, if they wanna make it cheap, I'm cool w/ it!

Well....I had both a 99 Cobra and now a 2000 Lightning. The 99' was PLAGUED by problems. At 8k---after weekly visits to the dealer I told em' to keep the damn car....and the fight began.

Although I've had some problems w/ the L---stock exhaust blew apart during hard run, intercooler 2x replaced till recall, side mirror shakes, front-end clunk.....I still love the damn thing!

There are a million stangs around and the cobra's really don't visually set themselves apart from the V6's except for the wheels and some smal cosmetic items. Go with the L!!!!
