leave em in?

i'm kinda thinking that in your shoes , I would want to leave the plugs in, maybe just as kinda a test to see what the techs come up with , and if they touch upon the plugs period.......taking them out would kind of wave a flag if you ask me. If you removed the pulley and chip, they may check the terminals on the pcm to see if it's been tampered with. Alot of ball busting dealers are doing that now from what i've been reading on the board. What is everyone else's suggestions.

Went to about 5 stores today looking for NGK's and SF's, NO ONE carries them, all said they'd have to order them, and ETA ranged from 2 day - 1 month.

Also I checked all vacuum lines, and fuel regulator lines. Thor, thanks for the advice about the fuel pumps. It might be over kill, but I'd rather spend a little now, than a lot later. Needless to say that chip is going back ASAP, and I'm not to sure if I want to reinstall it or just sell it. This was my worst fear about modding the truck. I'm also hoping the tuner will have a hand in helping me decided what to do. Thanks for the suggestions, advice, and anything inbetween. Most I can say is becareful, this might happen to you(hopefully not though).

There was no way my truck would have made it to the dealer without being towed. And I was also praying that in changing the plugs, that it would have all gone away. Guess I was wrong. I'm hoping that the few connections I have at this one paticular dealer will help me out in a way. I'm calling them tomorrow first chance I get.

You and me both got real lucky.

I'm betting its your plugs. When I was at WFC4 I ran way to lean and melted off 4 out of my 8 plugs and the other 4 where in pretty bad shape. My truck ran like chit unitl I swapped the plugs and even after that it sounded different. Since then its back to normal and its OK. Running 4lbs of boost you might want to get the BR7's from sal. Or just run the TR6's with a smaller gap.

Do you think you could have burnt a hole in the top of one of the pistons?

If he is seeing massive amounts of white/blueish smoke from the exhaust and smells burning oil, then his pistons are melted and have holes in them....His symptoms don't sound like that though....Its possible that the valves got hit bad from the burnt plug....The ticking might be from the valvetrain....You would hear a rod knocking...It sounds terrible, almost like a really loud Powerstroke diesel....You can't mistake that sound....

It is also possible ( likely ) that one or more Coil packs went south when the Gaps on the plugs went 3x the standard....

Not too sure on the coil packs, I visually instepcted them, and all seemed fine. But I did notice the blueish smoke today when I started it up. A certain dealer told me to put stock motorcraft plugs in, don't mention any chip or pulley, and bring it in to see him. Needless to say, I'm real sad, and more than likely, will be putting up some parts for sale within the next month.

This lean condition was more than likely caused by the cool dry air. You need some high octane numbers or a chip reburn to richen it up for sure. If you want to go with a different plug the NGK TR6 or and Autolite 103 should take care of you and I would gap them to .035.

I am taking the truck in Wed morning at 7 am..... we'll see what happens from there. I'm hoping that all problems will be taken care of without any difficulty.

Also wanted to ask. I got compleltly confused by Sal's post.

Should I use the NGK BR7EF's, or the Denso IT20's???

Or the NGK TR6's that everyone here is suggesting???

Once again on the mods, I have the 4# pulley, a chip (that needs to be reburned), and a K&N panel filter. Oh, and the highest octane near me is 91.....

Iridiums are 100 bucks and NGK's are 20 bucks. I would run a 2lb pulley for a daily driver and get the chip checked. Your plugs look good BUT at WOT they had to be leaning out to eat tips...

If I understand Sal right, the Denso's are more for a daily driven truck, the BR7's are ok for the street but not recommened for daily use. Since you have a 4lb pulley & a upper if I remember right you need one or the other. Do you drive it daily??

Found out that the problem was/is a bent valve in the #5 cylinder. Not too sure if they are going to warranty it or not. The tried saying no on the phone due to different plugs, but I told them that I had to change them, and that I have the stock plugs at my house. So they told me to bring them up, and see what happens.

I'll kepp ya'll posted. BTW, once again, wanted to say thanks for all the help. Truly a great crowd
