Unhappy

Ford dealers charge over $2 a qt. for 5w20 and Walmart charges $1.77 for Ford fossil 5w20 if you can find it. It appears this red label Ford synthetic 5w20 may be taking the place of real oil and this is only a blend. I guess SVT should get with the program and find out what their company markets for 01 vehicles!!--Jim

I'm sticking to what Ford say's to use. Especially since I plan to change oil at their recommended intervals. I don't want to play games with the dealer regarding warranty issues. The Motorcraft oil is getting cheaper and I can't imagine it would harm the engine in any way. Years ago I owned a Chevy Citation, bought it new and drove it for 185,000 miles. Traded it in and it still was running strong. After warranty, I would put almost any ole oil in that thing, 10W-30, 20W-40, straight 20, 30 or 40 weight, would only do oil changes between 5000 and 8000 miles. Didn't seem to bother that engine in the slightest.

Murray's sells ford semi syn 5-20 $2.39
Valvoline 5-20 $2.59
mobil 5-20 $1.99
Found amsoil makes a full syn 5-20 for $5.79 good for 7500k
they also make a 25k formula but Icame from the old school of changing oil. I think the 7500k would do just fine.Might be just advertising but they showthis stuff beating even Mobil 1 for wear protection. take it the way you want it

Thumbs up

If you are interested in Royal Purple, give Holcomb Motorsports a call (910) 739-0747. They sells RP for $4.39/qt. Best price I've seen anywhere.

If you change every 3K I don't think it really matters what you put in it. I personaly run M1 in all my stuff just because I don't care for dino oil, but what the hell do I know.

Somebody mentioned Mobil 1 oil filters??? What is the part number for the one that fits Lightnings?

Thanks,

tallimeca has a 2000 which uses 5w-30

Ford switched to 5w-20 in 2001.

Amsoil also makes a fully synthetic 5w-20 motor oil.

I agree with KGM. If you use a name brand oil and change it on a regular basis you're OK. I use Valvoline synthetic blend 5W30 on my 99 and change it every 2000 miles because I run it hard. Oil is cheap compared to the problems you can have. Just my .02.

If Ford switched from 5w-30 to 5w-20 for 2001; I wonder what could have justified such a seemingly small change? It would seem like something happend to make them change that spec.

GREAT! now i'm worried about running 5w-30 in my truck!

If I correctly recall from other posts on this site, the change was made to 5W-20 on their truck only for purposes of increased gas mileage savings some nominal percentage across the entire fleet of sales for EPA air quality considerations (or something like that).
