Cool Want to Buy Lightning Engine

I read a post on here a while back concerning a place up North, I think that sells Lightning engines, ready to drop in. I am currently in a 97 Roush F-150 4.6L, Supercharged, Chipped, headered, etc., and have just about beaten this motor to pieces.

I would like to install the lightning engine in my truck. Any ideas on where I can purchase one, or any other ideas that may be an alternative to my thought process on the replacement of motor's?

Thanks for your help...!

They were $4,000 2 years ago, now some are twice that, if you can find them.

This is the place I found them, but I see they are sold out now. You might call them and see if they have any further info. Good luck.

they have brand new 01 L motors ready to go for like 5500 to 6000.

Your still going to need a new tranny also though, and probably a L rear end to handle the abuse.

Since you allready have a supercharger , headers, on your truck, why not just rebuild the motor. Put some better rods, some Federal Mogal Pistons in it. Maybee do some head work. Then have the chip reburned to match the upgrades.

I would call Jim at JDM 732-780-0770 he is going to be building up my engine this winter. He has done a lot of custom engines and can give you some good advice, and might even have a good built short block in stock.

By the way what kind of supercharger and chip do you have?

Good luck
Don

Dummy, Dummy, repeat, Dummy, Dummy.

I was one of several who purchased the '99 Crate Motor from a dealer in MO. about 2 years ago. Paid $4k plus a tad of freight. My idea for using it in my '56 F100 seemed like too big a project, and it sat on the floor in my HobbyTown retail store for about a year as a "conversation piece".

Really nice guy who had an '00 Supercab wanted to upgrade his truck to L specs and paid me what I had in the motor and it was goodbye crate motor. Less than a month later, he asked me if I would like to repurchase the motor at the same price as he had found a used L at a good price and decided against the swap.

I said no.

Now Moby is about to come off lease (May), I am pretty well committed to buying/leasing an HD SC/SC for the additional room and should I keep Moby and/or eventually the HD truck I could have had a great transplant/source of parts for years to come at a really ridiculously low price.

Sometimes, I wish they would take stupid pills off the market.

Bill

After I had a crate motor installed in my 99 Lightning ....after it was picked up and shipped back I found out I could have purchased the whole thing for about $1000.00

Find someone ....if you get the drift. Mine was replaced because the intercooler leaked and the intake tract was full of sludge...thing is the sludge seemed to be the oil sucked in from the crankcase.....was it damaged...maybe.

make sense

karkraft had crate motors for 5695., long blocks for 3695, which is minus the supercharge(and intercooler i'm assuming), harness and fuel injection system. I would just go with the motor complete for the difference in price. Kinda thinking on buying a block and have it built, so if mine ever blows......it'll be a little stronger the second time around. Wha does anyone recommend for rods, pistons, cams on these if they are being built???

I only had to pay $100 to keep my 99 motor when they put the new 01 motor in my truck.
There is a guy on the corral selling his motor and tranny from his 99 Lightning. Broke a rod.
He is putting in a 514 crate motor in his lightning now. As of Sat. KarKraft only has longblocks in stock.

Lightbulb Thanks

I just wanted to say thanks for all the positive resonses I received concerning my quest for a new engine. I am speculating the option of a complete rebuild on the current engine, and a new engine.

I will post an update as soon as I research the options thoroughly, and have made a rational decision.

One more thing...

I have a good friend that recommends a 347 Stroker..Any thoughts, ideas, advice..?

Also, I have heard really good things about the new 351C that Ford is dropping in their $75,000. Saleen Mustang...Any thoughts?

Thanks for all the help..

i have installed the lightning engine in my 97 supercab and it takes a whole lot more than just swapping the engine. first there is the tranny, then you have to change all wire harnesses, the 14401 behind the dash, the 14405 going to fuel tank and tail lights, the tranny one, the engine compartment 12A581, the speedometer, the headlight switch, the double fuel pumps, the radiator, the fan swoul, the intercooler tank, the intercooler pump, the air bag key shut off, the blinker control, fusebox, the timer module, the pcm, auto light sensor, the cross member, all cables, throttle, cruise tranny, and more. if you more info i have all parts #'s and all the info on installing it, i did it myself. gary sons at e-mail suns@hargray.com
