Thumbs up

I don't know if it's XP os the new computer. Probably both. I have broadband and since I've had this computer with XP the net is almost as fast as my truck. The entire look of XP is muck better too, IMO.

You can change back to the "classic" look if you get tired of it.

I saw where you could change back, but I like the new look better. A lot better, and it's easier to use. The only thing I don't like now is the function of the program menu. Instead of scrolling down when the menu is longer than the page, it starts a new column. After I loaded a few programs, it started a third column. The problem now is that the third column is half way off the right of the screen. Anybody have this problem or know how to change it?

Right click on the Task Bar, select Properties and customize the start menu(Start Menu tab).

Select Small Icons.

If it's already set to Small Icons, you've got way to many programs loaded. You can remove them. Just right click and delete.

I've been testing it too, and it is much more stable/faster than any of the Win9x crap...

I have been testing it for 6 months now. I like XP for those running 9xs os but if you have win2k I wouldn't waste my money. It is more stable because they finally did away with the dos base and they now base it off of the NT platform like win2k.

Hey Rich

I figured it out. In the start menu properties, click on customize, then advanced, then scroll down the start menu items and check scroll programs. It will scroll the program menu and still have the appearance of XP.

al,
i too noticed that my cable modem was much faster. Although there are a few things that i dont like about it, like NO programs work with it, it is still pretty good.

I'll also stick w/ Win2k until the first service pack. I hate finding drivers that are compatible with eachother for a new OS. Give it a few months and all the new more stable drivers will be built.

Exclamation Might want to watch out!

I am in the I/T field, more networking than server admin, but my buddy told me XP has a huge security hole in it. By default a setting is enabled that will allow others to adminstrate your box, just like PC Anywhere. So people could move your stuff and delete files as well as add themselves as administrators. I will look into the fix or how to disable this setting as soon as I can, so in the meantime just be aware of anything odd going on. I am being serious, not trying to start mass chaos or anything. Later.

Like the guys said, wait for the release of the first service pack. Security patches and useable drivers are worth the wait.
