XM radio installed
XM radio installed
Just installed XM pioneer add-on
unit and through-the-glass
antenna on Friday, 11/23. Took
me 10 hours to get it up and
running. The alignment of the
antenna was the critical part.
The wiring was a piece of cake
with all the easily removed
plastic pieces in our L's. Not
having the tool to remove the
stereo head made for an
interesting project removing the
dash and pulling the chassis
forward to attach the antenna
splitter to the factory head
unit. All in all a very good
learning experience and boy am I
happy with the results. Bein a
country music fan, the
programming is superb and the
overall operation of the system
is well beyond my expectations.
The Terk through-the-glass
antenna actually looks kind of
slick on the rear window glass
(passenger side). It folds down
if god forbid you ever choose to
use a carwash. With all this
prior experience I could
probably get my next install
down to about oooh maybe, 9
hours and 55 minutes.

I chose the Pioneer FM add-on system. It connects between the factory stereo head and the factory antenna. The unit was $249.00, the antenna was $99.00, plus tax. Circuit City wanted $65.00 for install and Best Buy wanted $120.00. I chose to install it myself. It is not for the faint of heart. The two choices for antenna are both Terk. One is a roof mount that has to be cabled through the body or out the window. The one I chose is a through the glass that mounts with typical 3M adhesive. If I get a chance I'll post a picture of the antenna mount. The service fee is $14.95 set up and $9.99 per month billed quarterly to your favorite credit card. Most of the music channels (approximately 30) are commercial free. There is also numerous news channels, comedy and talk. With my short length of experience, it appears that the only DJ interruption is for lead ins to songs and artists. I liiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkeeeeeee it.

I went to my local stereo store today and priced the package. For the Pioneer HU and XM package, the glass mount antenna, and 2 Pioneer 6x8 to replace the front speakers, and installation, tax, etc, ou the door was about $800. I am going to keep shopping around.
I am going to get it, it is just a matter of where and when.
