PSP Factory Tech Shift Kit

Just finished installing the PSP Factory Tech Shift Kit. Figured I might as well do the engine oil while I was down there. I have 575 miles and figured why not. First off, did not get the notorious dieseling noise after the first oil change...knock on wood. Installed Mobil 1 5w30, and a Motorcraft filter. Then I tackled the trans. With only a jack and some jackstands, I was able to keep the fluid in check only spilling a little bit. Anyways, the install was a snap. Installed the valve body, new filter and 4x4 deep pan. Topped her off with Mercon and took the beast out for a Thanksgiving Day spin around the block. Man does this thing shift like a *****!!! Never got the tires to bark, which disappointed me since I have a JL chip with the line pressure increased. It definately jerks when shifting and throws your head back! In my opinion, a great mod at a decent price.

Good choice upgrading the tranny pan and filter while you were doing the valve body.

However, do not be disappointed for as you stated, your truck has only 575 miles....

Wait until you get 2 - 3k on it. The engine WILL wake up....

That's what I heard, but its hard waiting for the miles to wind up. I have a company vehicle and only drive the L on the weekends or at night. Got mine in September and only have 575 miles in three months! A tank of gas lasts a month!!!

Glad you like it!! We run one in our 2001 test truck, and it's a nice change from the Level 10 kit we had in our 99 test truck. Much better street manners at part throttle, and nice firm shifts at WOT.

Question Attn: Factory Tech

Well since you brought it up I guess I'll ask again......

What are the differences between the Level 10 and the Factory Tech valve body. I know the mechanical differences but not the driving differences. Can someone who has had both please give me some insight here

Thanks........Joe

Soap, sorry if I missed you asking that question previously. The drivability differences are that the Level 10 shift kit hits much harder at part throttle. We had it in our 99 and it was kind of annoying. Just pulling away from a light easy it jerked the truck on the shift. The Factory Tech Valve Body is firm on the part throttle shifts, but not jerky. At WOT they are about the same. I like the manners of the FT Valve Body better, plus for an extra $50 you're getting a complete valve body, not 3 springs and a valve for $150.

So not to just sell me a product but which one do you think is better on the tranny........or is there a difference in the amount of harm they do

Thanks again.......Joe

Well, it's not really a matter of one being safer on the tranny, neither one will harm the trans. Both will perform well and do what they claim. The Level 10 kit MAY jerk the U-joints more, but I doubt to the point of premature failure.

We did used to sell the Level 10 shift kit, and I ran it in our 99, and I'll still say it's a quality kit. However, I always try to sell the best products for my customers, and I felt the FT Valve body was not only a better piece, it's a better bargain for the money.

Not to cause any wars, but what do you think of the shift kit that is sold by JL, compared to the Factory Tech one?

The kit that JL sells is just a line mod valve. The PSP shift kit is an entire valve body that already has that valve installed as well as different springs installed in the other valves. Do a search under Factory_Tech. He makes the tranny's for Ford and designed this shift kit. Hope this helps Besides, I got a great deal on my kit, which is why I went this route!!!

I'm glad you like it. A big priority to me is to make a good kit that doesn't leave you saying "$150 for 3 springs and a valve???" What I do is pretty similar to the Level 10 kit, I do a few other things deeper in the body, but when you get a new valve body you at least feel like you got you're money's worth, hell, the accumulator alone lists for $161 (F81Z-7G422-BA, check it yourself) at a dealer, bone stock, so I think it's a good buy. I have a few other things in the works for those who want to run a bigger gearbox setup, and of course I make the "whole show" bulletproof box for anyone who just has to be sure they've got the baddest tranny on the block.

Just wondering if you think I should be barking the tires on the 1-2 shift with this kit and a chip with increased line pressure? My truck only has 600 miles on her, and everyone says she'll "wake up" when I hit 2000 miles or so, maybe that has something to do with it? Don't get me wrong, I love the firm shifts, but expected to bark the tires on the 1-2. Thanks

I used to rip the tires loose from first to second and feel a little spin from second to third in my 99 Lightning with the Level 10. I don't want my truck that aggesive this time, so I'm not going with the level 10. Don't get me wrong, I want a nice consistant 11 second truck, but without the whiplash.
