Those who make the videos

Are you guys using digital cameras? I got a limit of 400$ to spend on a digital camera, but it must have video capabilities and have sound.

Which digital cameras do you guys use?

I would buy a Sony Digital Camera w/ the memory stick. I have a Sony and it will do video's, however mine is an older version without the stick and I can only do 15 seconds of video. That's enough for a Lightning, RT's are a problem.

hey 54

I know Bill Hdmlnim uses a Sony digital camera that lets him take 15 second video clips. I just bought a new camera that will let me take quick time movies, but it is out of you price range.

If you want both video and sound, you will prob have to spend about $500-600

here is one you might want to look at
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2001_...canon_s30.html

If you don't need the sound you have a few choices in the $400 range
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2001_reviews/d510.html

I think Sony might have something in your price range, but I didn't do any research on Sony.

Hope this helps a little

Don

That will be a awesome choice, I just got the C4040z One thing I would recomend is a 128 MB Card the camera will eat up the stock memory in no time.

I know you will love the camera.

send me a e-mail at dhco@rcn.com and I will send you a quick time movie I took today so you can see what it looks like.

fast54triton,

I have the Olympus C-3000.
Do a search on pricewatch.com. That will find you the lowest prices on the net. I just did a search for the C-3000 and found a few for around $400.

The camera takes awesome pictures, up to 8x10 photo quality. The digital video it produces is not the best that I have seen.

What I have noticed is that the digital cameras that take good pictures usually don't produce great video and that the good digital video recorders usually produce good stills.

All my pictures in the photo albulm were taken at a reduced resolution of 640x480 so I wouldn't have to resize them.

Also, with this camera, it lags a little in the shutter speed. So if you want to take action photos' I would recommend the C-3030 or the C-4040 because of the extra memory built into the camera.

I would definetly get the 128MB smart media card. I have a 64MB and that is usually good for 33-35 photo quality shots.

As far as the Sony's, well I ask you this. Do many high end camera shops sell Sony's? That says something about their quality of photo's. I would stay with the Olympus or Nikon brands. They have been in the picture business a long time and have great lenses. Also, the memory stick is proprietary to Sony. Many companies make the smart media card which would lend them to being available a little longer than the memory stick.

If you have the bucks Nikon has a new 5 megapixle for around $900. But for the money, I think the C-3000 can't be beat.

Fell free to email me if you have questions on it.

Yep

I've got the C3030, got it in August a year ago. Word of the wise, buy the unconditional warranty. I didn't. My sister bought one (C3040, & the warranty) that covers it even if she drops it!

Go figure, I drop mine, and she doesn't.

Which is why I didnt updaqte my site...

There's always next summer.

$115

$130 tops. Trust me its well worth it. Had I known about it, I would have bought it. When I got the camera it was $995, and now its destiny lies in my skills as digital camera repair man.

Of all the electronics places and camera repair shops that can be found in this vastly technologicaly advanced city I call Anchorage, I find it quite surprizing no one can re-align the lens snout (riiiiiiight).

Tundra dons his mad scientist lab uniform and makes another attempt at repairing the camera

(BTW a CD completly full of all my race videos (seen on my site and soem not published) just popped out of my CDRW drive; it has your name on it fast54triton, or the first one to email me their address, as I have to go to the post office soon)

Wink

I have the Sony DSC-S70 it has 3.3 MEGA PIXELS, 2048x1536, 6x precision digital zoom and I use a 64mb memory stick. All of my pictures and my videos have been done with this camera. It does 15 sec. videos at 320x240 or if you want to do longer videos you will have to do it at 160x112.

hdmlnium,

With a 128MB stick, you can do longer videos right?

fast54triton,
I am no computer or even camera wiz but I think it has to do with the image size, you can do videos in 160x112, 320x240 or 320(HQ). If you do the video on 160x112 I think it will tape up to a 60 second video. This is what I did my first videos on, but when you watch them they were to small in my opinion. So I changed the image size to 320x240 to make the picture part of the video bigger but it shortened the video time to 15 seconds. I can do quite a few 15 second videos on a 64mb card I just wish there was a way to keep the camera filming longer that 15 seconds. Maybe there is, like I said I am no camera guru.

Bill
