Road smells and sounds
Observations and questions:
--- Smells ---
I was tooling down the road the other day and a coupla punks whizzed by in some Grand National or somesuch. They'd punch it, get squirrely, take off. I wasn't going for it. They were REALLY out of control.
When they'd punch it and get squirrely, I thought I smelled something funny. Was it nitrous? It was a pretty strong smell (not bad, but strong), strong enough to notice it at 70+ MPH probably 4 car lengths behind the fools.
--- Sounds ---
A kid pulled up to a light w/ me in a beautifully restored 68, 69 chevy pickup, something like that. All I know is, I spanked him. Weird thing was, as he was pulling up to the light, he was leaning forward a bit playing w/ something (no, not that), and his pickup made this "pshht...pshht" sound like he was letting air out of the tires.
What the hell was that all about?

Acoder:
Agree with Bad about the NOS purging 'noise'. The 'smell' may have been Manhattan Oil fuel fragrance--not kiddin'--Summit sells it--from 'Full Blown Bubble Gum' to 'Burn Out Blueberry'--and more??? I may order a bottle of 'Light 'em Up Licorice' to help my launchin'.

Hmmm
On the freeway, the kids' car smelled kinda sweet, maybe...I can't recall exactly. Man, they had to be spraying it, the way it would get all squirrely all of a sudden and take off.
The pickup, though, if he had NOS he didn't use it. Real nice kid; I talked to him at the next light. Said he had a 350 in it. I forgot to ask about the sound he made. I was too busy killing him again when the light turned green. Call me greedy.
