Getting intercooler fix Thurs. question
Getting intercooler fix Thurs. question
Have only 7k on my unmodded 2000. No leaks. Service says no sparkplugs or coolant unless leaking? Seems fair? Differing opinions on one-time use bolt kit? What's the real deal on those that have had this done/ thanks for any help!
The recall doesn't say anything whatsoever about spark plugs or hego sensors. However, if the intercooler has been leaking, both should be replaced.
They are going to have to put SOME coolant back in because they are going to have to take some out or at least spill some, yes it is covered.
I'm not sure what you mean about the one time use bolt kit unless you are referring to the intercooler bolts which aren't supposed to be reused. As far as the recall, this doesn't apply anyway, the intercooler is already bolted down when the recall parts are shipped.

chris
here is a pic of the new intercooler installed, it comes already bolted onto that plate that goes between the lower intake valley and the blower. hope this helps:

Your truck is subject to the just announced recall. There is an entire kit that the Dealer should get for you for replacement to the larger 2001 Lightning intercooler. If I remember correctly it has five or six parts to the replacement kit.
Did you get your recall notice yet?

Do a search for the intercooler fix or by my screen name. I posted info I got from SVT a few weeks ago there. It was what to do if you did NOT get the info from Ford. Basically, you have to call a number (800-248-0186) and mention recall # 01-b81 and have VIN handy. They will ask you what dealer you the kit sent to, and blam, you're done. Mine arrived at the dealer the next day.
Thanks for replies guys
A few weeks ago, I called dealer who ordered kit. Didn't even need to bring it in to check for leaking. However, NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE FROM FORD!

Which dealer did you use to change your intercooler?
If you get a chance, drop on by HobbyTown and we can chat. It is off Exit 269 on I 75. Take a left, go three stoplights and turn right at the Chucky Cheese. We are in the old AMC 8 theatre.

Hey Hobbytown
Bill the intercooler was replaced at Team Ford. Someone else apparently got the ordered intercooler for me,but Chuck(award winning service writer pitched a bitch and they got another one from warehouse in ATL and didn't start installing it until 4pm yesterday. Called at 8 this morning and was ready. BTW tried to purchase model of my red L at your store a few months ago,but only had small ones, so went online to get 1:18. Just got a haircut this week at Savvy (Longhorn section) Could have hit you with a rock from there. Since I'm almost 59, we have to be the elder statesmen of L owners. Dec. 4th Tues 1:30pm is next appointment. If you're there afterward, will stop by. You can email me direct at jkeithbrown@msn.com
