Cobra water pump on Lightning

I've read about some guys installing a cobra water pump on the L engine - anyone know if it is the one used on the 4.6L 4V cobra engine or the one off the 5.4L 4V Cobra R? Also, if anyone has one, I'd appreciate it if they would post the part # that's on it.

Thanks.

The water pump is from a 5.4 Cobra R I believe. You will need to use an electric fan kit as no provision is made to utilize the stock belt driven fan pulley. I got mine a few days ago from Power Surge Performance.

The pumps are the same on both those motors. Keep in mind the 4V pump can only be used if you switch to an electric fan because there is not provision for the stock fan on it. We sell them, they are $100. Shoot me an e-mail or call us if interested.

Talking

I believe the Cobra R water pump is an electric one, less parasitic loss on the motor versus the standard mechanical, belt driven water pump on the truck..

I think it runs by belt, but doesn't have the necessary wholes or studes to support the factory fan on the L. If you look closely you will still have to mount your pulley to the water pump, so the belt can run it. I could be wrong...wouldn't be the first time.

We are selling Ford OEM pumps. These are the same pumps that both JDM and JL also sell, for about the same price. If you can get them for $50 each, you might want to recheck that. Even dealer cost on them isn't that low.

2KL: I work at a dealer and our cost from Ford is more than $50 (not much more, but more all the same), where are you getting them for less? just curious.

and exacty how much markup would be acceptable in your eyes if you were going to sell them publicly?

later,
chris

the ones i can get are from a local parts source. If you email me at svt_2kl@hotmail i will send you the part numbers. These are the pumps for the 99 dohc cobra. if i got them for $50 i would sell them for $75 +shipping. That is just me, i am not saying that your prices are too high. Just that i can get them cheaper here.

I am not a parts seller, nor do i have any intentions on becoming one. just to clear that up.

I will tell you all this....When I added the electric fan and water pump, I went from a 13.40 to a 13.0.

The difference between the the cobra R pump to our factory pump is the impeller design. It is flows a lot better than the stocker and is 3-4 pounds lighter.

I also added the 170 thermostat, and with the combination of the fan and the pump the truck runs a lot cooler than before. Not much cooler, but enough to help the engine and not hurt performance.

To give you an idea of the impeller differences......the stock pump impellers look like the old alternator blades in the '70s and '80s, and the new pumps' impellers are surrounded. Thus, increasing flow and decreasing turbulance of the coolant. A big advantage if you ask me.

2KL-

Part of the differenc in price is that you are NOT pricing the correct part. I believe PSP's is the COBRA R water pump. Not a just COBRA water pump....

Sal stated earlier that both the Cobra and Cobra R use the same pump (BTW, thanks for the info everyone).

Maybe the price difference is due to an OEM (Ford) part vs. an aftermarket part. I'm sure some off-shore company must be producing them by now. Gotta watch some of that stuff...
