New '01 L owner
:Last night I traded my '97 Black Cobra for a Black '01 Lightning.
It had 58k on the clock, put out around 280 hp, but had been plagued by computer & electrical problems.
The mod bug will no doubt bite me soon, so I don't have much time. I've seen the FAQ ; the truck must remain streetable, and I don't want to push the relationship with my service department. That said what are 3 good bang for the buck mods ?
I don't want to sacrifice handling for straight line performance.
More questions to follow...
TIA
Welcome!
Air intake, computer chip and a larger lower blower pulley are good first mods.
There are several people here who sell various upgrades.
JDM Engineering has a 3 stage coordinated upgrade program:

The high 12's seem awfully optimistic.
How about warranty issues? Would these 3 mods generally void the warranty in most cases?

You guys that are just getting the 2001's now (and if they don't change anything on the 2002's) are real lucky. It has taken the tuners 6 months to really get the programs figured out.
So all you new guys should thank all of us that have gone through many chip reburns to get to where we are today.
Yes with the latest programs, a lower pulley, and a filter you should be in the high 13's or low 12's without any problems. With a line mod 12's for sure.Put a set of slicks and you will be into the mid to low 12's. Throw in a torque converter with those slicks and you will be in the very low 12's or maybee 11's
With warm weather the higher number, and low temps the lower times.
With all that power I would recomend a set of traction bars.
It is amazing what these truck are doing now.
You guys have fun and enjoy
