Don't get me wrong - I love my Lightning. So far the only problems I've had with my '00 are the control arm problem and some minor trim issues. I have less than 8K on my truck, so it remains to be seen if it will develope a leaking intercooler. But stories of blown plugs, leaking I/Cs, and wiper recalls scare me and shouldn't be happening (even a few) in a $30K+ vehicle.

I just get a little worked up when people are blinded by brand loyalty and refuse to acknowledge the facts. The Mustang/Camaro issue really aggravates me because people assume that because the Mustang outsells the Camaro, it must be better. Since when did the general public display common sense? Virtually every full sized pickup outsells the Lightning - does that make them better? Of course not - if your priority is performance, there is no choice other than the Lightning. I have zero brand loyalty and looked at the Mustang when I bought the Z28, and frankly it was a friggin' dog. The Mustang GT and Camaro Z28 are about performance and not much else - why would anyone buy the slower car? Again, if your priority is performance (if its not, there are much better choices than either the Camaro or the Mustang) there is an obvious choice - and it doesn't have a Ford emblem attached.

And novlem calling the Buick a POS just shows a complete disregard for the facts. That kind of tripe is nothing more than misplaced brand-loyal incoherent blather. Ford's closest competition for the Regal GS is the Taurus, which is less reliable and much slower (and has much less performance potential).

They will be back. That's how GM markets those cars. They threaten to cancel them every few years. When they do, sales go up, and they leave them around.

This time, they will quit building them for a few years, then bring them back. They will sell them again. Probably in front wheel drive with 4 cyl. engines.

Don't you just love the marketing wizards at GM.

You guys are incredible. Mark comes into the topic giving his experience with F-Bodies and you blast him. Brand loyalty to one manufacturer is idiotic. Do you get royalty checks everytime you say a few good words about Ford? Do you think they care about you the general public? Everything he said is right on. I have and do own both Fords and Chevys. The all have their problems. It's funny how we're on a " Performance " board but all you guys want to talk about are sales numbers for the mustang instead of performance. The GM twins KILL the mustangs in every performance aspect. The only reason the mustang outsold them is because they're cute. Girls buy up the V6 model in droves. Like Mark, I almost bought a mustang. Luckily I had an SS to compare it to. Sorry, no sale on the mustang. I didn't want to be staring at Chevy tailights all of the time. Use your brain. If you want luxury, buy a Lexus/Infiniti. If you want a badass truck that flys, buy a Lightning. If you want the best bang for the buck muscle car, buy an F-Bod. End of story.

Kingpin...Mark, very nice posts. To any others interested, I have read an article in a August 2001 automobile magazine saying the camaro will be back in 2004 as a rear wheel drive V8 model only. They borrowed the lines from the 1st gen (67 to 69) Camaro. The car had a large front end with big square headlights. It did not look like a Camaro at all! I was very displeased, it now makes me REALLY want a 2002, the last of the breed. The front end looked like that god awful "Aztec / Avalanche" look!!

I sold my 99 Z71 Silverado P.O.S. to get my 2K Lightning. The engine in my Z71 lasted 4 days. My Lightning now has 27000 miles on it and had the I/C leak, the wiper recall, driving lights crack, and last Friday it Spit out a plug. It will be down for about 2 weeks waiting for a new head. I'm a Chevy guy but I Love the Lightning. Now I'm starting to think I should move up to a 2001 and unload this 2K before the Warranty runs out. Sad to have to think that way about a new car. Fun truck though.
