How fast are Syclones?
Has anybody ever raced a Syclone? I guy I work with is buying one this weekend and the trash talk is heating up. My L is bone stock. The Syclone probably has the edge in handling with AWD and lighter weight, but what about the 1/4 mile?
The Sy's are faster 1/4 mile against a stock L. With the chipnfilter mods alot of guys have on here it would be an interesting race. If you're stock, be prepared to lose if you race him. If so just remind him you own a REAL truck that can tow 5000 pounds and haul 800 pounds in the bed.
I raced a Syclone at Cecil one friday night and it blew me away ran like a 10.40 to my 13.20. This was when I only had chip and ram air. This Sy was all modded and stuff. Pulled front tires up and just took off. I was scared he was going to loose control and come over in my lane. Later I asked the guy what he had done told me he was running about 20 psi of boost and had four link set up with cage and all. Should have known he was fast once I saw that cage and big slicks.
I really doubt that its that far off.
a bone stock 2001 L would run just as fast as a bone stock SY.
some guys on here are running 13.20's bone stock with there 01's once there broken in.

Raced a sy and a ty last night. The neighbor up the street is in F.A.S.T. I raced him one night in his typhoon. He came over last night with his friend who had a syclone with him too. We talked for a while then we found ourselves at a 3 lane red light. The ty was more modded and faster than the sy (sy only had a chip I believe). Good race. The sy was left behind but the ty hung an average of 1 1/2 car legnths behind up until about 100 when we shut down. Cool guys though.

I know you asked about Syclones, but Tuesday night I played tag with a Typhoon (the Sy's brother) during my commute home and didn't have any trouble with it. It wasn't much of a race but it was fun.
A clean-looking SUV passed me on my right and I noticed performance rubber, yellow Bilsteins, and an exhaust rumble as it passed me but I didn't go after it since I won't play with top-heavy vehicles, LOL. When I came to an intersection the SUV was stopped at the light next to another car. My headlights illuminated the SUV's rear and I spotted the TYPHOON badge on the left rear tailgate..., "This could be interesting," I thought. The light turned green and the Typhoon took off briskly and I followed. The driver noticed me and quickly moved to the right lane and I thought he was going to wait until I got even with him. Not so. The Typhoon squatted and tried to get away when I was a few feet behind his rear bumper. The L downshifted and I shot past him and put about two lengths on him before we realized what had happened. Unlike the Typhoon driver, I like to play fair, so I decided to give him another chance. So I hit the brakes hard and slowed down and waited for round two. As he got even with me, we waited about a second or two and we were off again. This time I immediately shot ahead of the Typhoon and put about two lengths on him. Then, about 50 yards ahead of us, I spotted two cars pulling out of an apartment complex so I began to slow down; I won't race when there's traffic around. The Typhoon driver apparently didn't follow this rule. He did a fly-by and zoomed past the two cars by quickly switching lanes. Idiot, I let him go since I had proven my point. As far as handling was concerned, during the Typhoon's quick lane changes, I noticed how badly the thing rolled, even with the Bilsteins.
Get a chip, you won't regret it; good luck.

Had a Typhoon myself,if the sy is stock the motor is probably tired, plus the stock chip has it governed to 107, launching it was a bitc-,you had to use the parking break to get a good stage and then just pop it loose, the lag was fun to work with.

On a side note, my '95 Bone Stock Corvette smoked one to 90. I was every bit of 2 cars ahead or more.

Don't let anyone tell you different.Stock for stock, the Tys will run door to door with an L to 100.They have the advantage from a dead start because of allwheel drive. They are poor quality but extremely fast for a 6. Admit it or deny it,it doesnt change the hard numbers.
Where do you guys see all these Ty's and Sy's?? I saw "one" a few months after they came out, and haven't seen one since. I remember hearing a 5.3 0-60 time on them back then, or am I mistaken?,,,,98
Could be they only come out when they hear that there's an L around?

The Typhoon was good for a 14.3-14.5 in the quarter at best.My neighbor had one and I ran him with my 90 5.0 and I would get him all of the time.My brothers best friend had a Syclone pick-up and if I recall correctly he clicked off a 13.6 at the track. One thing I can tell you is that you can work a turbo car a lot faster than a blown one. They respond to mods easily and its not unusual to see a mid 11 second daily driver now and then.Nosebleed is right about the Syclone running with a Lightning, but their "nintendo" gauges and tinny quality I wouldn't even put it in the same catagory.Just my .02

They Sy/Ty also handle worse than Buick Roadmaster.
