huh?

the link on the post two up....the article says brake and lower the throttle untill the boost guage swings as far as it goes - refering to the typhoon. I'm new to my truck and haven't had a ton of driving experiences with it yet......but this is one that i don't think i would want to try with my L......or would I????

No doubt! Hey tallimeca, read here about launching these babies. It'll give you a before/after synopsis of when I went to the tracks:

i did

read those posts the other night. Haven't been to the track yet, but have a hell of a time practicing launching out behind my shop when i leave at night I'm trying to track down a set of tires/rims for the winter, so no mods will be going on my truck for a while anyway. Any recomendations for vendors. Kinda a big flamewar going on about JDM, but have heard many good things as well. There are two sides to every story i'm sure, but nothing better than word of mouth recomendations.

Thumbs up

Ok guys,

I read this post a lil earlier today, and just had to find out the truth. Yes those "Syclones"are fast. A friend of mine just got his a few months ago so i called him up and set up a lil race and no they are not faster than our L's(keep in mind both of us are not expert racers), and yes i got him. It was very close @ launch cause i spun a lil but not to bad. Both trucks are stock, but we were told a few months ago that with a new cam those truck (Syclone's) can run in low 12's hi 11's so we were told from a local mechanic.

p.s. Maybe it's just that i got the fastest color also

I've always heard that it's nothing to get a Sy into the 11's.

I leave the line at 10psi of boost.
I have an 87 Buick Grand National.
Also know a bit about sy/ty's 0-60 they are hard to beat but after that, well there still fast.
As for getting into the 11's it's not that hard if you know what your doing.
More info on the SY/TY's here http://www.syty.net/

and http://www.sy-ty.com/

Former SY Owner

I agree with those who say that a stock Syclone and a stock Gen2 Lightning with chip and air intake are very close in the quarter. I owned Syclone #2424 for 6 years and ran low to mid 13's stock. 0-60 in the mid 5's. It's amazing that these 10-year old trucks are still so competitive. And back in the early to mid 90's, there was simply no competition whatsoever (well, maybe the GN's).

With a few mods, the Sy's and Ty's can get very quick indeed and beat all but the very fastest L's; however, they are also very easy to break. A couple of folks in the old Sy/Ty club disconnected their front drive shafts, dropped some significant mods into the motor and turbos, mounted big slicks and went low 11's. At least for a short time before major parts started to explode.

As for handling, my little Sy handled very well. I loved mine for over 6 years but finally sold it and bought my '99 L. Overall, I like the L better (it's the best vehicle I've ever owned) but I'll always remember my Syclone with affection.

My Ty and Lighting were dead even stock for stock 13.9 to 13.9. Check out my comparison at http://home.adelphia.net/~beckera/li...s_typhoon.html

Odin, Very interesting and useful website. I just placed a shortcut on my desktop.

Aaron, Great comparison and website. You're right, they're both great sport/performance trucks.

Yea..checked out that car stats.A lot of mis-info on cars, thogh. They listed the typhoon and Syclone as identical times, which is B.S. It seems wwhen they come accross 2 or more vehicles with the same motor, they just give it the same stats. Example 96-98 Cobra.98 Cobra had different ECU and fuel curve, it clearly went 2-3 tenths in all the mags, yet they list it the same...there are other exmples of this in the website.Good general reference, though, I must say.

Running them at the track is one thing,But on the street(my particular arena of combat)the L is more effective due to the fact that The turbo must spool up to run hard.As you know, most races dont even start until after you leave the light. Most guys just watch the other guy until one tries to pass. This "real world" type of competition gives the blower the advantage over the turbo. The weight difference is less disadvantage from a slow roll.

While many of you take your trucks to the track and get timeslips to prove your kills,I scour the streets looking for victims to skin. Its a seedy world to race in, with no rules. But I get more thrill from spanking someones *** on the street. It has more effect on a victim that didnt see it coming.I dont recommend it for everyone.I have plenty of "point violations" to deter most people.
