Having a vendor as a moderator on a board is a BIG MISTAKE. By giving any one vendor any kind of "power" you will eventually make the site bias to that vendor. That is exaclty what happened to the SVT Performance site. That site was set up perfect at first. JDM, JL and myself each had our own forum in a Vendors section of the site. We were moderators of our own sections, nothing else. All three vendors had an equal part of the site, and the site was on it's way to becoming a truely "great" Ford website.

Then the owner of the site got hooked up with JDM, and made some arrangements that that gave JDM control over most of the site. They became the major sponsor, they had banners on every page, and they were able to moderate pretty much anything. From that point, most of the site's members became very bias to JDM and then anyone who posted anything negative about JDM or anything positive about other vendors, was severely attacked by the JDM camp. It was not a pretty sight. Spiro, JL and myself were pretty much forced to leave the site because no matter what we said, we ethier got our posts edited, deleted, or just got plain rude an uncalled for replys.

Now that site is pretty much JDMs personal webpage. What had the potential to become a great Ford enthusiast site, is now just a vendors playground for their customers. This is why vendors should not be allowed to have any kind of "leverage" on these boards. Keep the playing field even and all is fine. The same thing will happen to the NLOC board in time, so I suggest those parties involved might want to rethink things.

This is not a shot at JDM, it could have been any vendor is this situation, it just happened to be JDM that was involved.

This sounds the same as this board, except it is the other way around. Anything positive about JDM gets locked just about every time on this board but when someone bashes him it goes on and on. I don't know, Jim and the JDM team has treated me great, I think everyone has had problems delivering product at one time or another. I have heard stories from loyal PSP and JL customers, as I have heard the same from some JDM customers. No one is perfect in this world and if you try to say your ***** don't stink you are all full of *****. I have said before and I will say this again, I have nothing against any of the tuners, I just choose to use JDM for all my performance needs. I will admit that I bought my NX kit from Sal and I did get great service. thanks Sal. And when I first bought my Lightning I bought JL's ram air kit, and also had great service from Johnny. But I know a few that haven't had as good luck as me with the top three tuners. I only wish that there was no negitive crap on these boards about any of the tuners, If you have a problem deal with them, don't start a bashing post so that everyone that has nothing better to do can join in on the bashing. Get a life and lets get these forums back the way they use to be, has anyone ever notice that a lot of good people that use to post here don't bother to because it is a big joke most of the time. Helping people, telling tricks of the trade, jsut plain talking about what we all love is great. But when every other post is something negative about someone, or a bash fest is very old and not good reading. No Bashing, No Bashing, get over it all.

Hey, ever wonder how every forum always has someone talking about "where did all the old good posters go?". Strange how the current members or the newbies aren't ever noticed. I think it's all just that people move on w/ their lives and go elsewhere. The ones who are still in this line of fun/work stick w/ it. You're always gonna have a TON to stay, but unfortunately you're also gonna have a few who blame it on someone else for the reason they left. Tough doo doo I say. I'd hate to see how those types of people react when their bosses get on to them.

Bill, I agree 100% with your statement, however that's not really what I was talking about. I didn't say anything about Jims business or people being happy or upset about his business. My point was that it is a mistake to give any one vendor control over a public forum.

 

Bill I pretty sure that if JDM was a supporting vendor on this site, there topics would not get locked out.

I don't see why JDM won't become one if there so confident in the equipment and service.

 

Hey, I tried to head all of this stuff in the 2nd. post on this thread. I told everybody not to get involved. I knew why ****** was pi**ed at Jim and had a feeling this would be a big thread.

Let's not drop it on Steve's lap here on F150Online. If you want to trash or defend JDM, let's keep it over on SVTPerformance, where it belongs. He's paying for some of that bandwidth. It's just not fair to Steve to bring this to his house.

Stop me if I'm wrong here.

I apologise in advance for posting to a closed thread. However
I am sick and tired of the constant belief that the only threads that get closed are JDM threads. If that is the case ( I dont believe it but ) it is because JDM threads continually degrade into one member bashing another.

I think what I should do is start closing the frequent threads from JDM bigots who, since he is not a supporting vendor, they take it upon themselves to openly promote his products and contact info. And while they are at it bash a few of the other tuners. While I am closing the threads I should edit out all the references to his website and phone number since it violates the vendor rules. There is no conspiracy theory here. I run some of JDMs parts on my truck.... It wouldn't make any difference if JDM were a supporting vendor here.

IF JDM threads or JL threads or PSP threads get out of hand I close them.... If a thread is "interesting" or becoming "exciting " but the members are having healthy, mature discussion I often let it go, since in many cases you guys do a good job of policing yourself.

I close the threads that I see, that have in my opinion gone to far. If you are a JL or PSP or JDM bigot the first negative post about them is cause for war....... If someone buys something from any tuner and either never receives it or has a problem with it that is a legit bitch. Just because you have had great success with that tuner doesnt mean everyone has.

All the tuners make Lightnings go real fast.. They are all making relatively safe power in the same price range.....

As I have said OH SO MANY freaking times, if you see something that is in your opinion out of hand use the link to report it to me. I will be happy to take a look... I am glad to have the heads up.
