Question How long did it take?

For you guys that DIDN'T know the head mechnic or some other form of inside scoop (aka, you ARE the head mechanic), and were one of us mere mortals that go to a dealer where we don't know anyone,

How long did it take to get your intercooler repair done? I dropped my truck off yesterday, but they were behind schedule and didn't get to start looking at it today. He told me they're not sure if they'll have it all done by the end of day tomorrow, but it would definately all be done by Friday.

With the "wiper motor" recall taking 4 hours, if the charge-air swap is an 8hr job, I can see it taking two days, but I was just curious.

Daniel

PS -- They apparently have two other Lightnings there for the intercooler recall as well.

Daniel, the intercooler recall takes about 2 hrs max. It's easy, but if the dealer is behind on work, that will of course delay it being worked on. I can't comment on the wiper recal, I haven't checking into that one yet.

Daniel:

I don't know if you Ford Quality Care centers in your area, but I'd take my truck there before I'd take it to a dealer.

They do all Ford warranty work and act like they want your business.

Only guy in town that touches my truck works at one.

Just a thought...

Good Luck!

dumb q:

can a quality care dealership who doesn't have SVT license still do maintenance on Lightning? I was wondering if they have able mechanics who can work on Lightning even though they don't sell them. Just curious.

I took mine to my dealer,,took 2 days for the IC swap..The writer said only SVT tech could work on my truck..I was OK with that because I had taken my truck back for some paint problems and the body shop fixed it like new. When I got my truck back it was with the new IC, It looked like they had'nt even touched it..No scratches ETC...

Walnut Creek Ford: Intercooler, wind shield wiper motor, and seat belts: about 3 hours. The funny thing is that the truck was originally scheduled for just a tranny check (it's slipping again). When I showed up, they had already ordered the other parts and asked if I wouldn't mind if they were installed.

Do a "dealer proficiency check" before leaving with them.

1. Is a Lightning Supercharged or turbocharged?
2. Is a Dodge R/T faster or is a Lightning faster?

If they hesitate on either question, take it somewhere else.

You can add your own questions if you like. It's not copywritten or anything...

Dropped the Lightning (and a heaping plate of homemade choclate chip cookies! ) at Gary Worth Lincoln-Mercury in Gladstone, OR. They loaned me a Sable for the day, but they had the wiper recall and intercooler replaced in less than 3-hours. I think I've made some friends there.

Took mine about a week to get fixed..but that could have had something to do with the fact i dropped it off on Sept 11, and they had to fly in the part

Hey Spoon,
They do a good job? Did you strip it down? Mine is due but I am still not wanting to remove the toys.

I droppped mine off on Tuesday morning, and got it back Wed. night. Intercooler recall, wiper motor cover, spare tire and Cront end clunk (again).

I got a Chevy Metro loaner. We practiced our parking brake turns with it, but don't tell Enterprise.
