The perfect day at the track

Since the track is closing soon up here in New England, I had to go and make a few last runs.

I show up about 8:30 pay and get teched in, pull into the pits and hook up with HD, and probie. I changed the oil, put some ice on the supercharger, aired down, opened up the coffee and chilled with some friends for a while.

When the track opened, and I was cooled down I decided to make a run, I was shooting for a 12.69 for some reason I liked that number. I Stage next one of them very loud mustang, the light turns green and as I am launching I hear a big bang. It startled me and I let off the gas for a split second. Once I realized it wasn't me it was hammer down to the floor. When I got my slip Wow 12.64 @ 108.66 I was pumped a new best.

The next run The light goes green, I hit the gas, and the rear wheels turned once , and then just flat hooked up. When it shifted into second and hooked just as strong I knew it would be a strong run. When I am running through the traps and the speedo is reading 120 mph, I am saying wow, that has to be a new best.

When I pull up to the time slip booth and pic up the ticket I allmost fainted.

12.454 @ 109.49 MPH Jim your new program rocks.

I was so pumped and since it was real busy, I aired up the F1's cleaned the windows, and went to watch Bill turn the first 12 second run in a Lightning ay New England Driveway. I think I was happier for his first ever 11 than my own run NOT

I tell you this is what racing is all about, nice weather, good friends and a run to last me all winter.

HD, Probie, and BostonL all ran personal best, to bad more of you didn't show up.

This is a day I hope you all have.

Don

Don,

What have you gotten done? I'm getting some shackles and a JL 3lb pulley early this coming week. What program do you have? Single or flip chip? 12.40's... SHEESH! I'de be happy with a 12.99. Well, maybe a little quicker.

Thanks Johnny

the truck is finally running awesome, and it is allmost time to put her away for the winter, and pull out the mini van.

This spring I guess I will have to get a torque converter, and some 15 inch rims and slicks. I will need them if I am going to play with the big boys.

The next mod will be the water pump, sure looks cool.

Thats' really hauling the mail Don. The 1/4 must really fly by in a hurry with those times. Maybe after my warranty is up I'll take her to warp speed someday.

Don congrats, I'd say it's time to give those F1's a break and get some drags.

Don, great job. I was watching your run with Ed and I told him that you'de run a gauranteed 12.5 and you end up going 12.45. I wasn't surprised at all, the track was in great shape. I think everyone who left that place with a lightning had a huge grin on their face. I was amazed at Ed's 13.07 with only a k&n panel filter, throttle boddy and line mod, no chip/pully!! very very impressive.

Hey Guys,
What a great way to end the year... everyone setting new personal bests! Al, the E-Town champ! Don, fastest motor L at NED! Bill, fastest NOS L at NED! Plus all the other L owners who made this year a good one at NED. JR, missed you at the track, but your spirit of helping others (with a spare bottle of NO2 for Bill) is golden. Thanks for the tire pressure tip. Bill, you were a man on a mission! Most others would have given up. Wish I could have stayed to witness your run. Can only imagine what next year will bring, but I know I'll be in the 12's with no chip and stock air box!

don i have a question? if say you are running a 12.5 and a stock lightning is running a 13.7, how many car lengths does that translate to in the quarter mile. like how far would you be ahead?
