Unhappy My L is dead

I pulled my CUX1 out today to desolder the contacts on it (they were built up from a previous superchip). I put the computer back in and the truck will not start now. Theft light blinks rapidly and the odometer reads - - - - - - . So right now it is at my local dealership hopefully getting fixed. Anyone ever had something like this happen to them before. If not, how much is a new CUX1 unit?

Happened with my mustang I had before my lightning, I went to a chip dealer and they thought my mustang was a GT and messed the cpu up, they took care of it but all I got to say is they are not cheap, it was close to $1000.
I guess i dont have luck with cars cause my truck is at the dealer for its 5th week now because I had a cylinder go bad and they couldnt tell me why so weve been arguing about hows it going to get paid for, I think we got it figured out now though. Ford is being stupid they know there is trouble in their 5.4L engines why they want to hassle us with this stupid "Question Everything" policy. Thats not going to get them far, anyway the point of my little complaint/story is that your probably going to have to eat most of that CPU after all it was an aftermarket part that caused it, and if your dealer is cool they might pay for it, but if not your gonna eat 60% or more, I should know thats the deal they offered me, I said LOL! Because 60% of $8800(new engine) is alot. Well good luck! Atleast you dont have to buy a new engine when all that needs to be replaced is a damn head or at worst block, but thats my story not yours

Sounds like when you desoldered the contacts you may have shocked the procesor. I did the same thing on my 99 f1504x4, I got lucky and the dealer replaced the procesor under warranty.

I hear a new one is around $300.00

Call Jim 732-780-0770 I think he can get you a procesor.

That happened to a local guy when we were at the track with his Lightning. Pulled his computer out so he could install a chip at the track, put it back in And it did the same thing as your truck. Cost him $700 at the ford dealer, They would not warrenty it.

hmm, i was hoping i didnt completely fry the CPU. I bought it used and it already had previously had the superchip in it, i have never put or had a chip in it myself. So i'm hoping if they question me about it I can say it had previously had a chip in it before I bought it from you, and that i bought it from them like that...with a warranty.
Also, i know it had a superchip in it previously because i pulled the CPU out..the black cover piece was missing and there was a leftover Superchips, Inc. sticker that used to be holding in the chip.
Hopefully i hear from the dealership tomorrow and they tell me they gave me a new CPU covered under warranty. Crossin my fingers

JON YOU CANNOT CHANGE A PCM IN A FORD CAR OR TRUCK
THAT IS EQUIPT WITH A PATS SYSTEM LIKE OUR LIGHTNINGS
YOU KNOW THOSE EXPENSIVE KEYS IF YOU LOOSE THEM $$$
IF THE PCM IS REPLACED THE PATS MODULE AND THE PCM PARIMETERS MUST BE RESET FOR THE ENGINE TO START
THE PATS MODULE SENDS THE FREQUENCY OF YOUR KEY TO
THE PCM IF THIS IS A GOOD KNOWN FREQUENCY THE ENGINE
IS ALLOWED TO START SO IF YOU CHANGE THE PCM WITHOUT
A RESET THE SYSTEM GOES INTO THEFT MODE
YOU NEED A FORD SCAN TOOL TO PERFORM THIS SORRY

ALSO WHEN A CHIP IS INSTALLED IF YOU DONOT CLEAN PCM
TEST PORT REAL GOOD THIS WILL HAPPEN

I seriously doubt your computer is fried. You need to have it reset. You triggered the theft system in it.

yep what BFB said!!! That happened to me when I was trying to install my chip. I had to unhook the negative cable for five minutes, then hook the cable back up and put each key(regular, and spare) into the ignition and turn to the on position so that the PCM could recognize both keys and then it should be OK.

Hey guys, i tried both keys, and it still didnt start. Also, I do have an aftermarket theft deterent system. I thought they would have deactivated the stock theft system to install the new one properly?
I guess i'll just wait for the call and see what they say

modularman - thats how that works. So that means that PCM must be calibrated before it's put into a vehicle w/ a PATS, correct?

Anytime you install a new pcm it must be programmed for your key to work.

Easy way is to just have mechanic install the new pcm and program it for your keys. If you want your CUX1 to stay a CUX1 you must let your tech know, otherwise it will be upgraded to a CUX2. This is cheaper than losing a key.

Question

I don't remember exactly, but I believe if you cycle the key on-off three times, it will program the key to the cpu.

It is not a new PCM, i took the stock one out and put the stock one back in! Anyway, just got a call from the dealer 30 mins ago and they said the computer is fried

lightning00n93cobra : where can i get a new one for $220? They are telling me that the cost of the new PCM is $400 something and the total will come to $588.

Godda^m these new cars and computers....i'm buying a classic that i can toy with myself, without doing damage.

Anyone think i can fight this? They are saying that it will not be covered under warranty because there is evidence that a chip was installed. I personally have never had a chip in it, but the previous owner had the superchip in it.....
