Well after some picture taking by Ford I finally got 2 new driving lights for my 01. Hopefull these will not crack like the others. Maybe I should install some 3M protective film over them to see if that helps out. I still think it's heat that caused them to crack but some people think that it's something else...

 

One things for sure...if you put the 3m protective covers on, the center will turn black from the intense heat. It's a dark spot about the size of a quarter.

 

I'm not sure,but I think I read somewhere that the cracking problem is a result of excessive heat not rock chips?BTW both of mine have small cracks w/only 4K miles on the truck.

 

I HAVE OVER 15000MI ON MY 01 AND HAVE NO CRACKS OR DARK SPOTS AND I DO HAVE THE 3M ON THEM THEY ARE USED OFTEN IN THE MORNING FOR MY 50MI DRIVE TO WORK. ABOUT 45MIN. GUESS I HAVE BEEN LUCKY. ARTIE

 

Maybe I'll just leave them unprotected and see what happens. If they crack again I'll get them replaced under warranty again. When I get close to the the end of the warranty then maybe I'll put the 3M stuff on....

I'm on my second set with only 2500 miles on my truck, the dealer was replacing them on four trucks the last time I was there,no questions asked..they told me that they are actually cracking from the inside out so if you have a dealer who is resisting take a close look at your lights, kinda hard to get a stone chip from the inside ...lol.. well i'm off to the dealer, time for alignment and 3rd set of lights,I'm starting to think the absence of driving lights would be a great place for ram-air
