Thumbs up New Motor

Well, the time is almost here for the new motor to go in. Once my converter comes back tomorrow from being loosened up, she goes in. Some people have asked for pics. Not much really to show, but I snapped a few.

Here's a shot of the bottom end. Manley Rods, ARP studs, And FMS high volume oil pump. The FMS oil pump comes with a much larger pick up tube, so I had to do some tweaking on the splash shield in the oil pan for clearance.

Here's a shot of the top side of the short block. We used custom Ross pistons. I opted NOT to use head studs, for two reasons. One, you can't get the heads off in the truck with studs and two, these motors really don't have head sealing problems.

Here's the motor assembled, waiting for the converter to get here so she can go home :-)

And if you're wondering what I'm doing with the stock motor from the truck, it's going into my 95 over the winter.

Sal - I edited out the spaces in the image tags and removed a smilie to get under the image limit - Doug

Hey Sal!

That looks so sweet. Man, nice build... I sent you an email about wanting to schedule a "visit" in mid november with a pile of parts so you can help me out. Lemmie know.

Can't wait to see that puppy run this weekend! Are you going to be there on Sat? I have a different race on Sunday and won't be there.

Dan

Nice pics Sal I'm curious to know what you did to the heads. Anything major? Whats the HP going to be (i think you said 700 awhile back) ? And what is the total cost of this motor build up going to cost? I'm sure there will be quite a few of us that will be doing this in the near future. Thanks in advance!!

Looking at that pic made me realize how much these engines need some Ford blue valve covers.

I think that space in the beginning of your URL is keeping the PICS from showing.

Lightbulb

Did you do anything to address the piston slap issue that some have had?

PS to make the pics work move the slash / to in front of img i.e. [/img] .

Noel:

He's got custom pistons now, not Ford pistons...

About time you came out of the closet with that bad boy. Anything done on the top end? Cams, flow work, etc? Looks like 4lb lower, 2lb upper, and a 250hp shot.

Prediction: Extreme traction problems.

Doing anything trans wise beside line-mod and converter?

Keep us posted.

Do you need an L core or just a 5.4 core for this project?

Just to turn the tables a bit here, how does this benefit the development of parts for the average Lightning owner? It seems all well and good to want to have the fastest Lightning on the planet, but for those of us deciding on what go-fast parts to buy, we will no longer have a standard test bed being used by PSP.

Not really trying to start a war, but it seems to be reasonable question to ask.

I commend Sal for doing a professional build up, but if other tuners out there did this same thing, there would be hell to pay.

Just asking.
