hey there fellow fordsmen (and women) well about a week ago i spotted a 99 lightning (red). well i cruised on over there and found out he wants 22 grand. (is that too much??) well looking around, i spotted a vortech turbo (6 psi, but can be tuned up) borla exhaust, nos line but no bottle (illegal to run on the streets, you can have it disconnected but the cops are just lookin for a reason to take a fast car like that to take home) he also said he will throw the bottle (FILLED!!!), free of charge. the truck looks really nice but the only problem is that there are scratches in the bed (line x can fix that) but otherwise a beautiful truck. also, there is 2 Rockford 12" subs a Power Acoustik 540 watt amp, and a nice clarion head unit. he also did some detailing work (the usual, wires, chrome) and it looks really sharp with the chromed wheels... SHOULD I GET IT???

 

Well, ha, yeah. With chrome wheels, a system, detail work and a limited production supercharged vehicle for 22,000? I'll drive the 2000 miles or whatever it is to get it. Nice. And you can get this just like that? Damn.

I know that Vortech engineering makes superchargers, do they also make turbos? If they do and that is what that truck you looked at has, why would he put in a system that would only get 6 pounds boost when the stock eaton will put out about 9? With just a few hundred dollars you can get around 15. It just doesn't make sense...Are you sure it was a real Lightning?

yea it was a real lightning, i kno the ways to find out... well vortech does make turbos, and as for the psi, you can tune them up to 26 psi (around there) but then you will have to beef up your whole engine in order to do it, and wheres the daily driver in that? well he tuned it down because its pretty much just for show. i asked him what it does in the 1/4, and he gave me a blank stare... well it should do at least 13s when i bump the turbo up, and around 11s when i put in the bottle (150 hp boost) well im not going to race it all the time and if i get it, its going to be my daily driver so i dont want to pump the boost way up (it was great with only 6, so think about how its going to be with it set at 10) i think i dont really even need the turbo, unless my friends tricked out cobra wants to run (2000 cobra with too many extras) well i think its a good buy, i just need to kno if it really is. it has 30 grand on the odometer and it has been really taken care of (no dings or scratches, except in the bed) he says its from hauling parts to and from the junk yard and wood from the lumber yard (WHY???) so.. waddaya think?

 

if it has a Vortech turbo, there is something very unusual about it. i'd go ahead and have it tested for anthrax, but thats me

i dont understand the turbo on a lightning idea, did they take the supercharger off and put a reg intake on? what a waste.

Personally I would be careful about a Lightning that comes supercharged from the factory that has a turbo on it. I dont recall anyone here putting a turbo on thier L and they have tried some crazy stuff..

If it was me I would check the VIN numbers to be sure it is a Lightning and not just a poser with a turbo... Look for SVT Guages, Obviously look for Eaton Supercharger, Someone here can tell you what characters to look for in the VIN to be sure it is what you think it is. You didnt mention the number of miles but if he is running NOS you should likely multiply the Odometer by 1.5 or 2 to guesstimate the wear...

well sorry its a 99 cobra, i thought 2000 for some reason. well yes for the second time vortech does make turbos. well i dont kno why the guy threw on the turbo either, but thius guy is kinda wierd, ive known him for a year or so and hes really nice to his rides, he doesnt race em, they are just for show but they can haul major ***... he has a 95 nsx t (a ricer but an exotic), a older lightning (1st gen) and a few ricers (integra r, civic and a s 2000 in the works) well im gonna get to drive it around and the truck and i have a date at the 1/4 and ill get back to you guys about it... well have fun!!!
